V8 conversion

A Rav4 runs the 1/4 in the 14.7 range which is decent quick but I'm not so sure it would be quicker than that. You still have a bit over 2 tons to get moving but definetly want to see how quick it really is. Cool project but not for the mechanically challenged or faint of wallet.

Isn't the Rav4 Toyota's fastest production vehicle right now...?

More on topic, congrats Singtoe.

Buckle up. :police:

It is not very precise but in the vdo, my odometer did start at 5.4 but I couldn't tell where in the time frame 5.7 was but it looks like right 14 second mark.

Financially, I made money on this project. The motor + trans was left over from the repair of the Second Sequoia. The Second sequoia paid for itself and the first sequoia.

I sold my 5V-FE motor swap for $1100.

Stuff I bought.

100 wire connectors, loom and circuit breaker,............................ $100
A/F sensor (stole it to put on the other Sequoia)......................... $45
2 COIL packs (stole them for the other Sequoia).......................... $150
Fuel filter............................................................................. $17
2 Electric fans....................................................................... $140
AC Hose fab.......................................................................... $135
Drive Shaft Shortening............................................................ $109
Oil Change (5-30w Castrol /Purolator Sale)................................. $21
Exhaust elbow and gaskets...................................................... $25
Red Antifreeze....................................................................... $20
Body lift bolts (grade 8 hardware).............................................. $20
Hose (evap stuff)................................................................... $20
Welding wire and electrodes..................................................... $60
Radiator............................................................................... $135

Total of $977 - $1100 (sale of motor) = $123 profit.
Mind you, I still have the tranny and transfer case to sell.

That's really freakin' cool. I'd be interested to know what your fuel efficiency ends up being. Lighter truck than the Sequoia, so it should be a bit better. Nice job!

This is also my primary interest, the mpg's. I have a 50K mile rebuilt 3.4 in the 4Runner now and think that it would be simply wonderful to have a 4.7L .................... of course I would have to re-gear again, I'm guessing back to 4.56.

It seems to drive well. It makes me want at least a S/C on mine now.

Any detections of torque steer or any other abnormalities with the set up?

Slowing the truck down repeated from 100 to 30 has taken a toll on my stock brakes. I have warped my rotors. I need to switch over the Sequoia.

Other abnormal - It was raining today and my 4runner wants to spin at every intersection. It fish tails bad if step on the gas too hard.

Other issues. I randomly nail the gas while driving on a 4 lane highway, passing everybody. It taunts me. Can't wait to try it on the trials.

Dude. Welcome to the V-8 club!

I'd see a VSC specialist about that fish-tailing thing. :toilet3:

can you trust that odometer?? seems like a little slow for a v8, based on when you hit the gas, the youtube timer says 19 seconds...

the youtube timer is about 41 when you hit .4 miles. thats 22 seconds, not possible, so the youtube timer or your 1/4 mile had to be off... maybe both.

time for you to head to a track and get an official time! LOL

I know a stock 2000 or 2001 with a CAI ran an 18.5 in denver last Oct. Im guessing at your altitude with the v8 if you go on a cooler day you should hit high 14's low 15's at least...

Maybe this is true. The speedo should be on because it is was from the Sequoia, the Axle ratios were the same (4.10) and the tires are the same size.

I know that the engine is not producing power at its max potential because of my crazy CAI and the the fact that i ran the exhaust into the old V6 exhaust.

Once I get some time, Put it all back together, I will take it to get some duals put on it.

Seat of the pants power is greatly improved over the 5fe-vz. I could never hit 100 in that little straight away by the house. Burnouts are so easy now and it just seems to be such a smooth running ride. Just have to see long term how my gas mileage turns out to be.

Fwiw- My gas mileage for this first tank will probably be pretty bad because I am constantly redlining and messing around.

Yea the first tank of fuel is a total loss, on my 05 Sequoia using the instant mpg feature (overhead data console) it can be as good as 20mpg cruising at 65mph with no headwind. The window sticker says 15/18 IIRC, and around town it is 15 but no worse than the vehicle it replaced or my built 02 4Runner. The sequoia curb weight is 4874 lbs, vs. the 4Runner at 3740, a difference of 1134 lbs. (small utility trailer).

I know an engine cannot infinitely improve so there will be a base line of fuel economy that you are about to set. I can't imagine though I'm sure it's possible to get this into another smaller and lighter vehicle (saw a t-rod with a 4.7L some time ago at a show).

The 4.7 is just as tough as 3.4 and should last forever as well. The motor weight should be similar with only slight gain since it is still aluminum.

I'm just excited to see how this turns out, all around. I'm thinking you’re on the right track with dual exhaust while I'm not usually a fan there might not be enough room to get a 2.5"-3.25" diameter single pipe plumbed in there.

Nice job on the conversion...btw...why do you think most 4.7 4th gens have full time 4WD? :D

Is there a link to all the pics in a single gallery maybe? Just so I don't have to go through all 30 pages of this thread.

(Any other forum would be fine, but this one takes forever between page-loads, sorry.)
