V8 Exhaust Sound and Video Clip Compilation Thread

I just want to say that judging from the videos I watched before the purchase of my exhaust and my video I think it's impossible to capture how a deep throaty exhaust sounds on a vdieo camera. That being said here are some quick clips I strung together from my Magnaflow.

Thx for posting. Like you said, it's still rather hard to tell exactly how loud it is over a video, compared to in person. I'd like to get a little deeper sound, that the sweet v8 in our T4R's deserves, but don't want too much sound (I have a wife to keep happy...) As a point of reference, I had a 4cl Honda Accord in the past that I installed a CAI (cold air intake) onto, and the wife hated when I would drive even 75% throttle. (She also hated that car in general though...)

With that said, she absolutely loves my T4R, and I want to keep it that way. So I'm looking for a little advice:

How much of a boost in sound is the Magnaflow vs. the original stock sound? I want a little more on the deep side, but still be able to cruise around the city with an almost stock sound, but hear a little more volume at WOT of course. Think the wifey will still be happy if I install the Magnaflow muffler only (no catback). I'm thinking of just going with the 12256 Magnaflow. Assuming this will need welded on by a shop also.

I had the Magnaflow 12256, was not loud at all, just gave a slight "performance sound".
I have since switched to the Flowmaster 50 SUV, it's just a bit louder than the Magnaflow.
If I were to switch again, I would contact Bad Ass Mufflers on Toyota120. This guy builds mufflers from scratch and really knows his $hit.

bigwebb83, I think that your exhaust sounds awesome. It did actually sound pretty deep and throaty to me. I think that the speaker quality you're listening through will make a big difference in how it sounds on your computer too. I happen to have a good speaker system with a sub woofer so I could get the rumble off bigwebb's clip pretty well.

I've been trying to figure out which way to go myself on an exhaust. Problem is you cant listen to two or three 4Runner V8s with three diff arftrmrkt exhausts... live. So I'm hoping to find out as much as possible here.

I have listened to the clips and read the threads I have found so far and am still searching, and still have some questions since I am really not all that tech savvy.

What is the difference, other than cost, between installing just an aftrmrkt muffler, and a whole cat-back system? I called and asked a local muffler shop and they were concerned that once you start in on the exhaust beyond just a muffler, that the "check engine" light will come on. They felt that keeping the 2.5" in and out would be better than going to a larger diameter pipe to prevent losing too much torque on bottom. They also seemed to feel that keeping it single would not only be cheaper but would reduce the risk of losing some power as it I could with duals. Apparently with just a muffler upgrade, it's really only, JUST sound improvement...

I had asked them in their opinion, which exhaust would provide a throatier, deeper rumble on the V8, and not create the harmonic drone inside like my 96 did. Their recommendation was to go with a Flomaster 40....I think....can't find where I wrote it down.....

Can someone explain "high flo" cats?

It is true right, that if I want to do this right for the purpose of not just sounding better, but also creating a significant improvement in performance without compromising MPG or reliability, I will have to consider a combination of exhaust and intake upgrade and add an A/F controller of some sort like the URD MAF Sensor Calibrator to optimize the motor's ability to utilize the increase in CFM....right....?

In my opinion, just a little better rumble than stock. Just what I was looking for. Sadly, the video doesn't do justice to the sound... It's a little deeper/louder in person. I used a little LG android phone, so not the best quality. Also, sorry about the ridiculous upside-down video and all that.

Also, FYI that I've only had it installed for about a week. It starts out quieter and will get louder the longer its driven on any one particular day. (Especially after a highway drive, it's louder). This video was taken after picking up some fast food, so it was running for about 10 minutes.

Hopefully it will get to the point that it's just consistently one volume at startup after completely broken in? I know these use a sort of baffling material, so we'll see.

I've been considering swapping my Magnaflow out for a Flowmaster.. I think Gibson is similar to my Magnaflow? In that it's quite tame at idle, but wakes up big time when I hit the gas due to the glass pack nature of them.

I think I'd like a little more idle sound, and would love to hear/see your video when available.

Any muffler that has sound deadening material in it will get louder as time/miles pass (magnaflow is a good example).

Flowmaster is nothing but metal inside. It will be a more consistent sound over the long haul.

Keep telling everyone flowmaster super 70ii same size as oem very muscular !! And mines v6 , sorry vids don't em justice . Problem is the ratty oem manifolds

This is my 05 v8. I had a FlowMaster Super 40 muffler installed recently. The engine is stock other than an aFe pro dry filter. When I first had the muffler installed, I had the shop keep my rear resonator on. There was almost ZERO difference with the muffler installed and the rear resonator still on so I had the shop chop it off and just weld a tip on with a little more piping.

Any way you can do a drive around vid, windows up/down & light cruise /heavy throttle both so we can get a better grip on this sound?
I think its more what I'm looking for, not too over the top?

Was there a drone change at cruising speeds with resonator on/off and how bad is the drone while cruising around, even noticeable at all as I read that's all a resonators supposed to really do? :noidea:

I have an ol'lady who don't like noisy cars or I'd have it rumbling pretty good like the one with the true duels here no doubt. :croc:
Damn, that true duels clip sounds sooo nice and also does so much justice for the Toy V8 engines.
