I sure would enjoy seeing some item by item proof of that posted statement.:awais:

eskimochaos said:Ok, how about the fact that the block on the v8 is forged iron vs the cast aluminum that is found on the v6. There is nor exhausr gas return system on the v8 which reduces carbon buildup in the engine. Furthermore, the internals of the engine are just made of forged iron The v8 was originally designed for the land cruiser in 98. Trust me, toyota would not skimp on any part going in that engine because of the price, reputation and all around better car than the 4runner. The v6 was designed for the 4runner which unfortunately is not even in the same league as the land cruiser.....yes I'm very partial to the land cruiser.

I don't understand what you don't get....the v8 is a better made engine period. Trying to find any technical documents on any of these engines is next to impossible. Furthermore, I never said the v6 was bad, I simply said that the v8 is better in all respects except mpg.riverider said:I agree V8s have more power they are Designed with heavy hauling and towing as the reason many buy them in Trucks and Autos, but someone making the statement that Toyota uses better components in their V8s then in their V6s is not factual or truthful.
I own a Truck with a V8 have owned many Autos with V8s. I own a 4wd truck with a V8 now. When I decided to get rid of the Sorento a very good V6 engine with 4wd, I did not need another 4wd or a V8.
What I really needed and would get the most bang for the buck was a rear wheel drive 2wd V6, that did not beat me to death over every small rut in our Cities really bad streets and roads.
The 4Runner 2wd V6 meets and exceeds all my needs and demands.![]()

charlier180 said:IMHO both the V6 and V8 engines have their pros and cons depending on their use. The V6 is not a piece of crap nor is the V8 a huge gas hog.
Back in 2004 when I purchased my V8 4Runner, there were important differences (to me) between the two when it came to how they could fit my needs.
The V6:
- 13% less Torque than the V8
- 5000 lb Non Weight Distributing Hitch
- No transmission cooler
- 4 speed Transmission
- EPA Fuel Economy of 17/21
The V8:
- 13% more Torque than the V6
- 7000lb Weight Distributing Hitch
- Transmission Cooler Standard
- 5 speed transmission
- EPA Fuel Economy of 15/19
Since the primary purpose for my 4Runner would be towing, the V8 simply met my needs better than the V6 did right out of the showroom door.
Had I purchased a V6 I would have had to upgrade the hitch and add a transmission cooler suitable to support towing.
Even if I did that I would have faced possible legal issues had I gotten into an accident towing with a V6 and it was found out I was over the rated towing capacity of the V6.
Having been towing with my V8 for a few years now I have to wonder how well the V6 could have pulled my enclosed trailer weighing around 5,200-5,400 lbs.
Pulling that brick most likely would have forced the V6 to work harder.
Knowing the hit I take in MPG with the V8 when towing, I cannot see the V6 towing the same load could possibly do any better MPG wise and could even be worse.
Have to wonder how many V6 owners tow trailers weighing 5,000 to 7,000 lbs? Would like to meet some of them and talk shop as far as towing goes.
I suspect there are not too many out there.

RickyCRX said:V6 is for mall cruisers
V8 is for workhorses.
I've read stories on this site of folks towing with V6s and actually getting WORSE mileage than I do with my V8 while towing. I usually tow a 4,800lb car trailer at 75-80mph and get 13.2mpg doing it. I've read stories of folks in V6s towing trailers and getting 9-11mpg because they are working much harder to do the same job.
Fact of the matter is, the V6 feels 'smooth' because of excellent engine mounts that isolate the vibration from the frame/chassis of the vehicle. It's well known and proven that V8 engines are typically much better balanced than V6 engines. The best balanced/smoothest engines in the world are straight-6 engines, although aside from BMW, you don't see them around very often.
Stop beating the dead horse. Get what you want or what will suit your needs. Just don't try hitching up an 8,800lb trailer behind your V6... My V8 had no trouble pulling it, though.

I think everyone now understands you area a great lover of the tried and true old V8 engine. And I think we all now know your getting super gas mileage hauling that 4.8K load at 75/80 mph.
Wonderful, I am really happy for you.

RickyCRX said:Actually, considering I don't get much worse than some people get in-town, I am pretty happy with the mileage.
I got 18.8mpg (hand calculated) on my last tank of mixed city/highway driving. For a vehicle with this capability, I cannot complain whatsoever.
As I said -- each has is pluses and minuses... GET WHAT YOU NEED/LIKE/WANT. The V8 is superior in every way except initial purchase price and gas mileage. Period. End of story.
