V8 Gas milage after exhaust change

Hey guys, I've read every thread on upgrading exhaust and some say there gas milage dropped, others said it was no change? I want to upgrade to a flowmaster 50 series for the rumble but don't want to impact gas milage.

How many have had drops after they changed exhaust? How many stayed the same? How many were better?

how loud do you want to hear the drone? flowmaster are good for noise. i think gas mileage will go down a little if you like to floor it alot.

check out dirty deeds exhaust. Most of the reviews are with tundra owners, however he makes kits for 4runners. After reading/research Ill be picking one of these systems up over the winter

Looking at their website (search by vehicle option), they do not list an exhaust for the T4R. Only tips.

Magnaflow Y-Pipe and Gibson exhaust....sounds great with no drone.

contact them, do some google search and there are some youtube videos as well.. it exists, it sounds good even on video.. (havent heard in person) and functions well based on about 100 different reviews in different places that ive read. I was in contact with, Keith I think his name is.. about a month ago getting quotes and discussing design.

There is a mega thread on the tundra forum with every bit of information you would ever need to know about it and why its a worth while consideration over other brands/designs. If i can find the thread again ill post it.

owners that like loud aftermarket pipes do put the pedal to the metal because they want that sound result lower MPG... happens all the time.

so if you drive normally then no change in MPG ...

IMO waste of your $$$..

I had spintech on my last car 1996 impala ss.. i consistently got compliments in the sound.. very nascarish.. that said.. drone was a thing. I just didnt care lol

Thanks, I've watched all the youtube videos and kind of settled on the flowmaster 50 because it's not too loud, just makes the v8 sound like a v8. Also going to run the tip out the side behind the rear tire so you don't get the exhaust fumes in the truck with the rear window down.

But really, does milage go down? I understand people's foot gets heavy after the exhaust because it sounds better but I wanted to know if people really experience lower milage, even with a steady foot.

My v6 went down after a flow master delta 40 install. From 17 to 13 mpg.

I would recommend getting the stainless steel option. Its another $100 at the time I bought mine a couple years ago, but its freaking solid. You could leave my truck in a field to rot for 20 years and the exhaust will be the only thing left.

I would recommend getting the stainless steel option. Its another $100 at the time I bought mine a couple years ago, but its freaking solid. You could leave my truck in a field to rot for 20 years and the exhaust will be the only thing left.

your videos pretty much sold me on the sound.. the stainless is still 100 more. but imo absolutely worth it. you got any pictures you can post up of the exhaust under your truck?

Actually talked to keith at Dirty Deeds, he's local here in San Diego. He didn't recommend the stainless because we have great weather and don't see snow.

He quoted $150 for just the muffler and said it should improve performance if I can keep off the gas. He quoted like $470 for everything installed which seems high for a muffler install with side exit.

sounds right to me.. I didnt realize you were in san diego. In ny, if its not stainless, its rust dust in 2 years.

I have the Gibson 2.5" Dual Sport Swept Side Exit in aluminum and love it. We don't have any real corrosive weather here so the SS wasn't worth it in my eyes. I did however give it two coats of high temp matte black on the entire system up to the stainless tips just for good measure.

In my experience I didn't see any increase or decrease in mpg but I will say I tend to get on it a little more just to hear the exhaust I currently have just the exhaust and a aFe drop in filter on the stock limited 18" wheels and average 17.1 mpg.

I did quite a bit of research before pulling the trigger and I'm really happy with the way it turned out. Most likely will get a UDR y-pipe eventually or if my headers ever fail the Doug Thorley headers, but no plans to replace them if not.

Another nice incentive to get a Gibson system besides the sound is they are offering up to $75 rebate on their exhausts right now. Good time to get in on a new exhaust.

Here is a current picture, still looks brand new, that's just red mud. Pretty high clearance compared to the stock muffler, I haven't hit mine on a rock yet, not that it would do much damage to it.

Truly the only way you lose MPG's (Noticeable amounts) is if you're romping on it everywhere you go. I have that issue so I went from 15ish on mine to roughly 13.5 if I'm lucky. DT headers, Magnaflow 20 inch muffler. Full 2.5" out the back with a custom y pipe

Thanks raid runner, the more I'm researching and talking to muffler shops they are recommending magnaflow over the flowmaster due to the straight thru design. Are you happy with your setup, I'd love to do headers but I heard they are expensive to install.
