V8 Guys and Gals with Gibson Exhaust

Just had mine installed today. The guys at the shop I took it too were impressed with the quality (stainless version). Unfortunately they could not re-route it to the side so I would have to take it somewhere else for that, no biggie. I love it so far. It sounds so deep and aggressive, definitely louder in the cabin but only on acceleration, almost silent when cruising. They took an hour to put it in.

Just ordered the Gibson for my V8... can't wait! I would also like to get mine turned out to the side but it looks like there is a hanger real close to the end of the tailpipe already on the Gibson. Anyone have experience getting the Gibson turned out to the side? If so, what did the shop do? Just scrap the last hanger/add a hanger to the other side of the tip/other?

The shop routed mine out the side when they installed it. I'm pretty sure they cut it behind the last hanger and then welded on a new one with the bend. I remember speaking with one of them and they were concerned that without welding on a new hanger it would not be sturdy enough at the back. Here are some pics.
Uhmmm.....I guess I wouldn't know. Not that I don't have a friend with a V8 that also has a Gibson exhaust or anything.
I have driven his and it sounds more throaty but not much more. But there is a difference. No disrespect to the V8's but don't think because you have a V8 your the :toilet:

Thanks ultramontanist for the pics. So they cut up the last Gibson kit section and used the tip that came with the kit or used a universal tip? Couldn't tell for sure from all the mud! haha
Looks good though, I'm trying to decide if it is worth the hassle. I do think I prefer it to be out the side...

Yes, they cut off the last part of the Gibson and welded in a bend and then used the tip from the kit. Although, since I have put on a different Gibson tip because I thought the one that came with the exhaust was a bit big for my likes. I would definitely recommend routing out the side. It cuts down on the sulfur smell and increases departure angle, or at least you don't have to worry about smashing up your exhaust.

With the two stainless kit's Gibson has for the 4th gen 618707, 618708 the difference is the lengh of the head pipe that connects to the converter. It's about 3 inches shorter with the 618708.
I put the 618708 on my 2006 V6 and it had to be modified. didn't use the gibson coupler. I would say it has not helped with the MPG it may have made it worse at first with me getting on it. It just looks good, gave me ground clearance, and makes more noise.:biggrin2:

Hey, sorry about reviving an old thread... Trying to confirm there is no difference in the exhaust system on an 03 and an 04 (4.7)
I have ordered the Gibson 18707 system. The place I ordered it from is saying that the system is for 04+ 4Runners (4.7)
Any clarification help would be great!!

I'll report back about the fit-up. I told the guys I ordered it from that I would do a quick fit up, and ship it back if it doesn't fit.

maybe i can help you guys out. i bought 18707, says it doesnt fit but i got it anyway. fits perfect.

i am not, 04 v6. i guess my point was that it says it didn't fit mine, but ended up fitting perfectly, and as far as i know, the exhaust from the y-pipe back never changed from 03-09, so i can't imagine it not working on an 03-05 vs 06-09 or v8 vs v6
