V8 Hard to start

Hello all, just got 2003 4runner V8 SR5 2wd. When starting from cold, it starts right up (about 2-3 seconds of cranking). The problem is starting the truck when the engine is warm after driving it. It would take at least 3 tries (auto crank) before it can start back up again. I googled it and found something about one of the issues the V8 has, which is "Hard starting: Occasional no-start of V8 engine after hot soak due to faulty cam position sensor. (2005-06)". Anyone know if there a fix for this? Here's link, about halfway down the page 2003-2009 Toyota 4Runner: Full Review - Consumer Guide Automotive

Thank you in advance

Well, first; that appears to be related to the 05-06 model, but if it is in fact related to a faulty sensor then I would imagine replacing the sensor will fix it. :)

Things to consider for troubleshooting an engine that is hard to start when hot (according to my Haynes manual) ...

1. Is the air filter clean? If dirty, replace.
2. Is fuel reaching the fuel injectors? There may be a vapor lock situation, brought about by clogged fuel tank vent lines.
3. There may be a bad engine ground connection.
4. There may be a fault with the fuel injection or engine management system.

Thanks for the responses...apparently the '03's also has the bad sensors. I had my wife take to the dealer where we bought it (last Saturday) and said it's the sensor. They ordered the part and will be replacing it for free..yay...I like free :)

I used to carry a water bottle to pour on the crank position sensor in my Audi when I had to start it hot. Not so easy to get to this one. If you need or might need a timing belt, ask how much more to do that job, since they're half-way to it when they get to this sensor.
