V8 Swap (5VZ-FE 3.4L V6 to 2UZ-FE 4.7L V8)

Was just going to add this. GreenbowCounty's is the second one from Singtoe and gave me the idea for the 4th gen airbox.

Really have to hand it to Rob Singtoe, not as active as he used to be but the amount of work, detail and pride he put into the swap always amazes me. Coming up on 30k in a bit on the drivetrain and everything functions without issue. I commend you guys able to undertake such a tremendous project. single handedly the best addition to the truck! Look forward to hearing more of your impressions!

If I keep reading stuff like this It may be in my future too. Must tell my Taco friend and see if the swap is possible for him. He was think supercharger. He gets 8mpg towing the snowmobiles to his cabin. The last 5 miles is up a mountain with snow chains

We are on day 4 of the first road trip since the swap and I’m averaging just shy of 18mpg. This is on a route that’s taken us across the Sierras twice and today through Death Valley and into Nevada, so it’s been a huge amount of hill climbing. Truck feels like it has “effortless” power now. This is the way they should have come from the factory!

Absolutely this is the way they should have been offered...

I recently pulled a 99 limited on a car dolly 450 miles with mine. Even with the 5000lb load, armor and 35s, she managed ~65 mph up the hills with relative ease.

I have been daily driving mine now for about three years, with the A/C on high and the AC/DC even higher...only issue iv'e had is...
mild hearing loss.:guitar3: and a bad case of permagrin.

P.S.
mikentosh...My hat is of to you sir for a fantastic job. and Thanks again Tim for bringing this to us in such a great way.

Sounds like a good time Mike. Again thanks for letting Tim and Sean tag along to make the video.

Never knew custom AC lines could be so expensive.

Very jealous of the ride. :rapture:

Thanks! Yeah the A/C job was quite a bit more than I expected, though this included the evac/recharging. I'm sure you could do the same for much less if you just brought in the lines and asked for the necessary modifications. At that point in the project I wasn't super excited about squeezing my hands down the sides of the block again so I was looking for them to finish it up "turn key" with a priority on OEM look.

Can you imagine if there was a pre-fabricated engine mount kit for this?

We happen to have the engine mounts drawn up in SolidWorks, so if there was demand they could be supplied :) But TBH I think the engine mounts is one of the easiest parts of the whole project.

Man I really wish I had the time and money to do a project like this. Perhaps one day... really good job to those invloved.

Awesome, I'm going to watch the entire vid tonight.

So, who all is in the V8 4runner club now?

I know of 4

Singtoe
Alanflies
Torqueofthedevil
Mikentosh

Are there any others known?

Also Dirtyfingers I know he was having some issues, not sure if he got them all ironed out.

can I but in?

I really liked the video. I wish I had made one. I have a 03 double cab with the 06 tundra v8. It is awesome. I did some similar things to my swap as Mike did. I also folowed singtoe and a few others. We did them about the same time too. April 28th to june for mine. I just wanted to get in and share. My thread is not as good as a video but it's all I have. My build thread is at https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2003-toyota-tacoma-double-cab-2uz-fe-v8-swap.513323/. I want to find the radiator that Mike used.

Thanks for another awesome video! Especially a video on a V8 swap. Really really cool stuff!

You've helped me decide if I ever want more power, I'll go supercharger lol. :nerd:

Definitely a cool swap and one I hope to have one day. Cool to see some of the process and steps it takes to make this possible. I’m about halfway through watching the video and can’t wait to finish it up.

Money Shot?

Great video and project!
I watched the complete video and wanted to see and hear the engine!

Bump for an awesome build, and hopefully some more info on the fan shroud.

What material is the shroud made of? How much room is between the core and shroud? What kind of rubber are the flaps made of?

Again, awesome work!!

Well my HG went out on my 01. I always said I'm putting a V8 in it when it goes. Well it's time. Researching has began. Any tips would be greatly appreciated
