v8 transfer case swap to 6cyl transfer case?

You will likely need a 4WD computer from a V6, you can look up the part numbers online and see if they are the same. You will also need to make some wiring changes; as a minimum, you will need a different wiring connector at the xfr case actuator.

Can you expand on this a bit? Re “ wiring connector at the xfr case actuator“ I have yet to do some actual homework and I am just pulling bits of knowledge from the gurus here for insight, are you saying the v6 & v8 actuator have different terminals? I could actually take your advise and run the #s to cross reference it my self but if you know a trick or something please hook a T4R brotha up.

Is it really that simple though? I like the concept, I believe I’ve seen another thread about it but it was a v6 twin stick manual swap from the FJ with a body lift. To be clear, are you saying the FJ carrier doesn’t use ADD? If I recall correctly the FJ 6spd also has the manual t-case so that would eliminate the actuator and 4wd conflict. However, that doesn’t really address the big question at hand, are the v6 & the v8 t-case actually the same in the T4R? Cause the Tundra & the Sequoia technically share the same drivetrain but obviously a different frame with more space for the ADD.

For me, the 1” body lift is still on the table. I’m running 315x75x17 with a bit of rub when stuffed so 1” will help my BFGs quite a bit. As for my thoughts on the motor mounts, that’s just to center the fan in the shroud and relieve stress on the wiring harness and lines. I figured it would yield some spare real estate for ADD too. Not quite sure how much room is actually needed though. It’s all hypothetical until I get my lazy ass out there and start plugging $hit in though.

I really do want to figure this out and definitely appreciate all of the criticisms as well as feedback from everyone here. I want to shift my priorities around and re-gearing to 4:56 needs to happen soon. That’s why I’m optimistic about a more plug-n-play option. So if a new actuator, new switch and ADD carrier put me in 2wd I’ll put the body lift on and figure out the motor mounts myself.

Ah yes! That’s the one. I read that article over a year ago and was a bit rusty on the details. They basically addressed the issue by cutting and welding the oil pan to make room for the ADD. They chose the Taco carrier and the FJ t-case (from the auto 4wd) with the manual selector. They did this because they were adding the twin sticks ( dual t-case). It’s a whole nother level of wheel’n fun for sure. I still think we could use the t-case as is and just add missing parts. But it’s late tonight and I may be hallucinating a bit. So there has s that to deal with too.

Not a dual case. Just the single FJ case modified to allow you to have 2wd, 2wd lo, 4wd hi, 4wd lo.

No sense in swapping in another electronically controlled shift tcase. Either fix what you have or go with the manual case.
