v8 with vvti cam seal replacement

hey guys, my 4runner just hit 100k. It has the v8 with vvti. I am going to be replacing the timing belt and water pump. I would like to replace every seal I can while I am in there including the crankshaft seal and both cam seals.
I have searched and did not find much info on cam seal replacement with vvti.
do I need to actually remove the cam shafts in order to remove and replace the seals? or can I just remove the vvti cam gear and get at the seals that way?

You can just pull the VVTI gear and replace the seal as you would any other seal. Just be sure to properly hold the gear so it does not turn when removing/re torquing the gear.

You can remove the VVTi cam gear to install the seals. Let me see if I can snag you some instructions on replacing it.

Edit-

Apparently replacing the camshaft seal on the VVTi 2UZ-FE's is more complicated than I thought. Usually you can pop the cam gear off, but this particular design is more involved...

If this is your first Timing Belt at around 100k, I wouldn't worry about the seals; usually they last pretty well into the second timing belt interval.

thank you for the info. It does look a lot more complicated than I thought. I figured I could just pull off the front cam gear without removing the actual camshaft. yes this is the first time the timing belt is being changed. In the past, I have done timing belts on other engines and also replaced all the seals.
I guess in this case I should hold off until the second timing belt change which should be around 200k. I hope the seals last until then.

I did every single seal at 93k when I did my TB and will do the same thing at 190-200k.

so i assume you did the cam seals? how did you go about replacing them, did the cams have to come out or just the front vvti cam gear?
