Valor Exhaust

I am missing something here. Why would you bother with an "exhaust tip"? It doesn't do anything. Get a real exhaust!

There are different grades of stainless and the one used for most exhausts will rust very slowly. Just keep it clean and it should last the life of the vehicle. If the exhaust was made of stainless that will not rust at all, it would cost way too much. I have a titanium exhaust on my motorcycle that costs $1200. The whole exhaust weighs 6.5 lbs. and is the length of tail pipe on an average car.

ok Koz, are you saying that the Valor tip SHOULDN'T Rust?? I just checked the tip on my GX, and i've only had it for a month, and it's already got some rust on the drain hole. Hasn't been thru rain yet. The one I just got for the 4R doesn't. Can that be returned for another one or what? I noticed that maybe they shaved off too much on the tip of the GX, vs the tip of the 4r.

Well here are the pix.

And a picture for those who are still waiting to see how it looks and/or planning to get it, here's a picture:

No, most exhaust are 304 stainless and will rust at a very slow rate. Also notice the rust is right where the hole was drilled. The heat generated may have affected the metal's molecular structure.

Also... if the drainage holes were drilled out by a carbon steel drill bit, the carbon would have contaminated the stainless causing the corrosion.

I would rotate the clamp so the bolt is on top, so it could not be seen.

The instructions from Toyota state it should mounted as pictured with the bolt in the vertical position. Who knows why, but it's what they say.

I installed mine this weekend...awesome tip! Question though, is it safe to spray the tail pipe black before I install the tip?

I painted the mufflers on my old Acura TL with a black high temp. BBQ paint when they were looking a little chipped, never had any problems with it.

Nice hitch cover. Did you get that from your Toyota Dealer? That's much better than the cover they give you. :(

Hey, thanks. Actually, it is the one they gave me, but I took a silver sharpie and filled in the raised letters with it. I was browsing on this forum earlier and got the idea from another member. Gotta love this site, always full of ideas. That was the least expensive mod and probably will be!!:D

Pretty nice idea. Never really liked the dull black "Toyota" on the hitch cover. I might try that. ;):

it is a great idea! I just did the word toyota...and after I did it, I realized I should have tried doing just the "yo"...
