Valve adjustment game. Which ones would you re-shim?

Back from the mountains (yeah, took the van instead of the 4Runner, but we were in a house and weren't doing any off roading, at least...). Weather looks warm and dry for the next week or two. I have the valve shim tool (aftermarket) and micrometers - time to get to it!

Let us know how it goes Charlie!
So far, so good. It took a bit to figure out the best method to pull the shims (including one popping out and flying around the engine bay...). The trick for me was my sharpest pick (started with a dull one) and patience. You have to break an oil 'vacuum' - so constant pressure for 3-5 seconds seems to be the best. There is a TINY lip of the shim available at the access notch. I can see how air would work best, but I couldn't turn on the compressor at midnight next to the neighbor's bedroom window.

I only got to the valves with the removed exhaust cam so far. I'll check the others that are on the edge of the spec since I have the tool and see what will work out best. So far, one shim will swap and I need to purchase 3.

Thanks for the update Charlie. Yeah they can and will shoot out some times. Happened when I did a 7m and a 1jz. Good to know it's only 3 shims so far. Let us know the final outcome will be.

Last night's learning was how to use the shim tool to get to the intake valves with the cams still in place... Phew. I wouldn't want do do that for many of them.

If (big IF) everything was measured/calculated correctly, I should be able to get everything better than spec with 4 purchased shims and 3 moved shims (0.013-0.014 exhaust / 0.007-0.008 intake). I got really lucky with the moved shims right in between available shim sizes. Now just waiting for them to arrive...

Closing the loop here. Shims installed and swapped. Final results:

And a quick pic of the open valve covers before closing it up. Doing pretty good for 326k miles:

Haven't gotten a chance to start it up yet, but the supercharger + 7th injector is really close to installed... Currently a few wires to solder and fixing the transmission kick-down cable routing.

I miss the simpler days, When the engines valves could be adjusted with a filler gauge, 12mm wrench and a screw driver (22R) Most of the more modern engines (2GR-FE etc) just use hydraulic lifters. Zero adjustments needed.. :-)
I personally am not a fan of the shim and bucket setup...but, that's what the 3rd gen valves adjustment need. I am sure Toyota has their reasons for using this style of setup in their valve trains. I don't know way though.
