valve adjustment question

Hi everyone. I am looking at buying a 2001 SR5 that has 107k on it. One owner, all the paperwork, overall pretty damn good truck. There are a few things I know I need to do (TB & Water Pump mainly). My question is that I took it for a pre-purchase inspection and the stealership said that with this many miles, it needs and adjustment to the valves. When I drove it, it was perfect. No clattering or anything. How much of a concern is this? Sorry for the long winded lead-up to the question.

on the 3.4L from what i hear in order to do them you have to get new shims mines got almost 180k and its been drove pretty hard runs just fine never had the valves looked at they sound just fine

I agree with Elton.

With fairly low mileage like that it shouldn't be a concern. The stealership is just trying to make money off of you for an unnecessary job.

good question, what is the mileage on the valve adjust i was reading the manual the otherday and i don't think it even listed valve adjust under the 10.20,50,80,and 120K services.

Know this post is a little old but got a noise coming from my valves and and was looking in my toyota maintenance log and only says something about it at 60k and 120k and its only if they are making noise that they need to be adjusted

Valve adjust is legitimate, and should be done every 60K miles if you're planning on taking the vehicle to 300-400K.

I did a valve adjustment on my 3RZ. Do it if you care about your engine's longevity. Just barely caught mine before they all got burnt up.

yah mine started making noise so I think I might get them adjusted just dont want to get bent over for it just put another motor in it like a year ago now junk yard not rebuilt
