Valve Cover Gasket job

I see no mention of the 2 cam plugs (at least in the original post) in this thread which are important.

Also, someone mentioned cracking the half moons. I almost did this until I realized they have ridges on them. Pull them straight up and out with a pair of pliers.

Awesome! I was just looking at the Valve Cover Gasket set and might settle with that.

On a side note, sorry to hear what happened yesterday! Glad you made it out safe

Nope, I sketched on those and assumed I could reuse them along with the half moons :mad2:

Amazon has them for $11 each vs. camelback $9 each

Definitely not reusable. Also, one of the main places that leaks occur.

I just did the valve cover gasket job - my gaskets were fine, the leaks were at the cam plugs. Get new cam plugs.

And if you want to be cheap, like me (that's a compliment), you can do what I did, 2 for $14 - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-of-2-G...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Started tackling mine today after work also, then saw this thread [emoji1305]
I don’t remember what brand I used but they’re completely gone and spitting oil after less than a year. Wish I saw this thread before with all the links for parts. I went with a Japanese brand THO KP or something like that.
I only ordered new gaskets and not the cams and half moons since I had put new ones in with the gaskets. Do you think they’ll be ok? Thanks.

A 32mm socket aids in helping drive in the new spark plug tube seals, or at least with me it did.....

You can do it in under 8 hours. Biggest issue for me was screwing around with that stupid plastic harness cover, trying to keep it from disintegrating which is futile. If I did it again, I'd round up some 1" or 1.5" split loom, and use it to replace the factory plastic harness cover.

Everything else is super easy.

Oh, and to be really smart, I'd break up that factory harness cover into small chunks as soon as I had the lower plenum off (and intake openings taped up!) and before taking the valve covers off. That way all the little shards won't go into your valve train .
