Valve Cover Gasket Replacement - What to Look Out For?

Hey everyone,

I have a 2005 4Runner V6 SR5 at 173k. My valve cover is leaking. How difficult is the job for someone who doesn't have much experience?

Is there anything I should look out for? Is there anything else that I should replace at this time?

The last few things I've replaced are the serpentine belt, spark plugs, air filter, and cabin filter at 150k.

Sure it's not the timing cover? Very common on the pre06 V6's.

Sounds like you've done everything that could be done while in there... maybe clean the throttle body while it's off?

I'm pretty sure it's not the timing cover. My local Toyota dealership and Firestone noticed that I have a valve cover leak and suggested that I replace it.

Toyota also mentioned that my serpentine belt needs a replacement due to the leak. Even though I changed it recently, can a valve cover leak cause the serpentine belt to degrade rapidly?
