Valve cover gaskets

I need mine done I was wondering how much work is involved and how much $$ its going to cost. I got oil coming out the wazoo and going everywhere over my motor.

Were you planning to do it yourself? In a few weeks, I plan to get mine done. I know 99% of the guys on here work on their own truck but, theres no way in hell I would even try to do a job like that myself. My mechanic said it will cost me about 450 for the job which sounds cheap considering he wanted 350 just to replace a fuel sensor which I replaced myself for 90 bucks.
 
The passenger side is pretty easy but you'll have to disassemble the aluminum intake to get to the driverside. It's pretty straight forward.
 
Thanks guys I was thinking about doing it myself but I dont think I want to take it on by myself, ill take it into the shop and see if my friend will help me side by side kind of deal. When replacing the gaskets is there anything else that should be replaced while everything is off?

Gunna go out to the 4runner and see if the valve cover bolts are tight even. I didnt think about that when I was looking at the mess of oil and dirt this morning. I pretty much just closed the hood and said Ill deal with it later lol. Its a mess

Dont over tighten those things will crack in a heart beat, my PO obviously overtightened mine and cracked it but i put some pb weld on it and its been good since
 
I was able to do the majority of this fix up to a certain point (read broken bolt). Before this I had only done O2 sensor swaps, oil changes, shock replacement, etc., minor stuff.

If you have the time, go for it. Save yourself some money and learn. I found several write-ups by searching and asked the help of the more-than-willing forum members.

This really is a great, helpful community. I own '91 F150 also and troll their forum time to time and it's freakin busted. I see more rebel flag pictures and poor grammar than helpful vehicle insight.

Just search the forum and ask questions.

Did mine this past Sunday. Got the put form Partsgeek.com. Ended up getting the set with all the bolt bushings and cam plugs and spark plug gaskets too. It wasn't too bad. Took me about 5 hours start to finish.
 
I just did mine last week. Wasn't hard at all. I even through some Chevy orange on em.

i liked it but you should have gone with toyota red, not a fan of non-stock and especially domestic colors for valve covers, you might just run into some performance issues using that color on there.

It's not too bad but for you guys that have done them, how much of a b*tch were the spark plug tube gaskets for you? I had a hell of a time getting the new ones to seat properly. What technique did you guys use so I know for next time?

32mm socket.

Or if one has a set of seal drivers, like the one needed for the inner axle seal fix, there is a size in the set that works as well.
