Valve cover seal 1700?

So I had a shop do a few things for me due to time. Well the valve cover is leaking a little. Nothing major. Just build up. With 140k they are telling me to monitor it or the service for them to do it is 1700?

What's the actual cost if I do it myself. It runs perfect now and this preventative work.

Holy crap 1700 is waaay too much for valve covers on any motor. Most shops will charge $80-100 an hour for labor. So I don't think it takes 6-10 hours to do some valve cover gaskets. As far as doing it yourself, look up the gaskets online ,I'm sure there available. My guess would be an afternoon of your time and maybe +\- $100

Double check with the shop that they are talking about JUST replacing the valve covers or are they also including other services in there like a Valve Clearance Inspection and Adjustment Service (which probably wouldn't be a bad idea, should be done every 5yr/60k according to Toyota, but you can stretch it to twice that with no issues) and spark plug replacement (should be done every 30k if you're using factory copper plugs.)

That would make the $1700 price tag a little more understandable (though still somewhat on the high side.)
