Due to the hurricanes I put the 35's back on beginning of last month, and have been enjoying it. But it's time, As she sits with everything done including the passenger side front wheel bearing which I did a few weeks ago, on the 35's $10,500 no BS. For 10,500 I will include the 18" steelies as well in all honesty and I have my rear TJM springs for sale but if the buyer wants them will throw them in. Not 100% on the car I'm getting yet but don't except the 4Runner to sell overnight. No issues!!!!!!! I drive over 100 miles a day and never worry, the wheel bearings were bothering me so replaced the front right one, the drivers side tested fine but in all honesty it is making a little noise, no change so it could just be the aggressive tires:). The front passenger side one was bad though:).

Plugs, valve cover gaskets, intake tweaks, front diff, transfer case recent flush new cv's - will include the factory cv's for rebuild axles as I planned on using for trail spares. 315/70/17 BFG kO2's balanced Great on the stock rims with ALL-Pro 1.25 or 1.50 spacers don't remember right now. Tint was done in April, hell just look back through this thread and see most of what was done;)

Alright, can't make this post from work so going to make it in an email, then send to myself on the phone if it doesn't' come out right will come back from home later and update lol.

Well, I'm back - built an 85, 86, 04, and 95 before this one - the 85 was straight forward as it was FE and Solid Axle so didn't do much other than lift and lock. The 86 did a full rebuild, SAS, locked front and rear, and sold way too soon. The 04 was my ex-wifes and we had it in Germany, sold it in Germany and had an 07 ordered that we cancelled as our marriage took a turn for the worse on a deployment. When I got back stateside as a single father of 2 I picked up the 95 and over years built it to be probably one of my favorite vehicles ever. Sold it in 2011 and bought a Jeep Wrangler that I built and sold not 8 months later as I wasn't happy with it. That brings us to now. Was driving a BMW 330i that had gremlins that I kept at bay and autocrossed the piss out of for 3 almost 4 years, but recently it started having electrical issues - ie shutting off at highway speeds - and I said goodbye.

Not a bad looker, was a great performer by the time I was done with it but so so so happy to see it go and get back to a 4Runner.

2003 SR5 v8 4Runner with 110k miles and one owner, cool story was after I picked it up Monday found the original owners manual and it was a German delivery, just like the one we let go and didn't take delivery on, so it's meant to be lol.

I'm a build kinda guy so up front this will be a lot of maint, and fixing of items I don't like, or that need to be done, I will document almost everything, and I try to keep the first post of the build updated with the latest pic as the last pic. So here she sits when I bought ie now:

Plans are as follows in no specific order:

Fix the issues:
Headlights fogged - have mothers kit in back seat now will do this weekend.
Paint fading on door handles, and the rear tailgate hatch is abysmal - I did something I thought I would never do - ordered chrome caps - it's just easier - arrive on Thursday.
Tailpipe mod - I like to roll with the windows down, and love the rear window down, just doing the watermelon delete and picked up a 90 degree bend to run out the side - will cut and weld up this weekend[emoji4]
Some crappy double din stereo which only works on front speakers, I have the JBL synthesis - so looking for a Scion headunit with steering wheel controls, ability to use my amps, and Bluetooth.
VSC/DSC is intrusive when trying to play - have a cheap switch that will wire up this weekend to disable it for playing in the mud - I live in Florida[emoji4]
Running Boards are on it - Remove and hope to sell
Cladding is faded - will clean/detail and then hit with a heatgun to get to excellent shine/sheen.
No CB - Wiring up my Uniden this weekend mainly for trail runs - still ironing out where I'm going to put my mount for antenna but have all the other items, going to do center console mount of CB and the run external speaker into the cubby below A/C controls.
Figure out where to put my Garage door opener, and my Community gate opener - homelink doesn't work for second as it's rolling code so not going to go homelink...
Rims are horrible - the clearcoat is yellowed, and some areas are pitted and they need refinishing - will hit with aircraft paint remover and polish, then re-clear.

I'm sure will find more, and will post pics of all the problem areas as I start to work on them[emoji4]

Mods planned:
Lift - 3" to be determined but probably springs and 5100's but will see. Will be a 1" body lift as well for a few reasons, one being making header install easier which is another mod down the road.
Hidden winch mount through front bumper - not till after bodylift.
Possibly 06 up headlights and bumpers/cladding, but not sit on that just yet it's a "possible" mod.
Full exhaust eventually.
Airbox mods - elbow first, then fenderwell snorkel OR may do like I did the last jeep and do a cowl vent intake which is honestly where I'm leaning at this time... Spectre Performance Performance Cold Air Induction Filter System for 97-06 Jeep[emoji768] Wrangler TJ & Unlimited with 4.0L Engine | Quadratec for reference as it worked and I swamped my hood several times and never had any issues, picked up considerable mileage and power, plus the sound was amazing, can only imagine on the 4.7 I now have[emoji4]
Sliders - this may come before the lift honestly, may end up doing bodylift first as can do that without needing bigger tires, it's cheaper, allows me to access to do maint, and want sliders, hidden winch etc all to be setup for a 1" bodylift.
Spacers for the stock rims - and of course either a 255/85, or a 285/70 - 75 will be enroute as soon as possible, but tha will be a bit as the tires I have now unfortunately have a lot of tread left, they are the BFG long trails so not the worst tires out there, but pretty ball-less.

Some other pics for your enjoyment of testing it out and realizing how much I hate the VSC/DSC with the fulltime 4wd[emoji4]

My older daughter went with me when we tried this out in the muddy open field - even with center diff in the protections are going crazy when doing all wheel doughnuts, need to stop that:

Rain cleaned it off a lot:/

Picked up a palm frond on that jaunt lol:

Current pic from end of Nov 2016:

Oh yeah, grew a lot in May 2017, 35's now:

Has around 35 mins this morning so ran the vsc off mod, first did the black and white wire did not work so moved to the top one and did the red wire, boom worked can't wait to try. Then wanted to verify I didn't have the hydrocarbon filter, I did so removed it and discovered I have a TRD/K&N flat filter in there so will just be doing the silencer removal on the I take path for now, may order the stuff up tonight but time will tell just sold some BMW rims I had so have a little more change to throw at it:). oh I just used that flat spot that was unused to throw my cheap switch in as I already had it:)

Well had a few hours tonight and a few things I pretty much required done, headlights are polished OMFG so much better and the mothers kit hands down beats the 3M kit mainly due to the final polishing step.

Before:

Other one looks the same but was worse before.

Then my LED interior light kit came in I bought the 18 light kit so have to figure it where a bunch I have left go. Doors are done, all the overhead lights are done, reverse lights are done:). Couldn't be happier as of right now:)

And hard to see but the running boards got removed as well!

Have some more goodies coming before the end of next week, worked out a deal for a scion radio today, found a snorkel kit but I'm not ready to buy that yet, and finalizing the CB gear I need for install.

Well did the tailpipe mod so can roll with the back window down, will paint it up black soon but still getting stuff from that hurricane here occasionally.

Ordered up a Scion radio, some trim bolts/whatever you call them, trim remover tool, and went ahead and ordered a wilson magnetic mount to put on top of the roof instead of using my firestick and external speaker for the cb mount i'm going to use.

I used to be anti chrome, but when the trim is faded, and some is just downright horrid, 68 bucks for a full trim kit is much better than trying to replace and paint match:)

Bad:

Got my wilson antenna in - plan on installing CB, and a good wash, wax, and some time on the trim and rims this weekend if time allows it. Also got this but it's missing the two little plugs in the back for the steering whell controls, and I'm JBL, but with a old Eclipse Double din DVD/CD player, when I dove in saw it's installed properly so now to decide if I want to keep the old eclipse unit or go with the Pioneer/Scion unit - I'm leaning towards the scion actually as the screen seems to be a little messed up on the eclipse, sounds pretty damn good when turned up though.

Since I have to order the two wires, will go ahead and order the ipod controller/aux cable as well - it has the adapter I would have to cut up to wire in the Scion so will be sure before I do it. The eclipsse doesn't have Aux or Ipod control, what do you guys thing - the Scion - trim matches and will have steering wheel control, can control iphone, and can add bluetooth kit for around 80 bucks... Or eclipse double din DVD already installed but has some quirks and issues.

Let me know, more pics soon and have other stuff enroute still - can't even remember all of it to be honest, little trim items, have some loose panels, more CB stuff - external speaker, etc. All low cost items but should make decent difference.

Tried the aircraft paint stripper on a rim, liked the difference as they were horrid and went ahead and did the other 4. This is the first stage made a huge difference but now I have to spend a lot more time on them and will reckless them in the not to distant future. Some pics:)

At this point only front drivers side rim is stripped

Now doing other 3

After shots

Total time less than an hour and that includes driving to the car wash to do the other 3 as wanted to hit with pressure after letting sit for a bit. Will need some more work and possibly a few more sections hit with either sandpaper or more remover and then will get all level and polish up, or paint or do whatever will make look better:)

And, couldn't pass this deal up, 6200 mile 2015 TRD Tacoma struts and shocks with front complete so will be doing a spacer lift in front and 1.5" day star in rear for a while. Then once this suspension is worn will go with a lot more to the mods I have done at that time which works best. Got this suspension for 75 bucks!!!!

Far as I can tell the taco Trd springs are 14" instead of the 13.68 that mine are - and mine are completely worn - and have found some interesting stuff on tacoma world that says they are 590's and progressive of course so a tiny bit stiffer but the progressive rate is what I like, and then throw on the new Bilstien Hd's and can't go wrong for a temp solution.

With spacers 2.5 or 2.75 front and 1.5 rear as well as diff drop looking at around 160 total for my 3" front 1.5ish rear:). That brings more money for moog ball joints, possible upper a arms, stainless brake lines and 1" bodylift.

Either returning the scion radio I got or selling it for 80 and that will cover the front and rear spacers so hope that all happens soon:)

Looking around and comparing weights a lot I'm leaning toward the FJ or Trail 4tunner rims and Fierce Attitude MT's as the tires only weigh in at 54lbs a piece for the 285/70/17's!!!! To put that in perspective the Grabbers come in at 94lbs a tire, and Well they are the lightest tire and even lighter than the 255/85's I was looking at, seems they last around 45k miles as well and they are made on the same carcass as the duratracks, which I ran in the past and liked but not enough to buy again due to mud performance:)

Nice! I have 4 kids, so I know alllll to well the budget crisis! lol
The girl dancing around cracked my up!! Especially when I saw her in the background of one of the pics doing a...ballerina? pose? lol :first:

Thanks T,

Funny I did bodybuilding, strongmen the, and powerlifting when I was younger and was always called BigT or Diesel, I'm 5'8" lol I read your whole thread and saw where your 6'4":)

Well a few days ago my interior lights stopped working, wasn't fuse, wasn't sure what it was so went to the relay, found the issue which makes me think the others will start going soon as well. I cleaned the contacts off, and stuck it back in, lights work. I then cross referenced the 84 dollar relay by Denso for Toyota and found the Denso part number and ordered it for 11 bucks:)

FYI it's marked Denso on the cap before I cut it open.

Wow that thing was messed up!
I used to powerlift. I was a monster! Lol. In 4 months time I worked my way up from benching 125 to repping 330 on incline bench, 185 to 550 lb squats and deadlifts, 300 to 865 on leg sled, and we repped a curl bar with 155 then did dumbell concentration curls with 75,65,50 lbs. I was 6'5",280 lbs of beef! Quit doing that when I didn't have the time or money anymore and gained some weight. Started doing 500 push-ups, 100 pull ups 3 times a week, walking 4-6 miles a day as well as some other cardiovascular Then I started having problems with my lower back and between my shoulder blades. I stopped and gained an ass load of weight. I lost an inch of height as well. They still can't figure out what's wrong. One Dr told me I built up all the muscles around my core so much that it was stressing it out. I've been losing weight slowly now, and am strong, but no where like I used to be. I'm 36 and with working so much I just don't have the time anymore.

Looking great! Do you have a picture or brand for that aircraft paint stripper? that stuff looks like it worked really well! Have you thought about plasti-dipping your trim?

I just bought an 05' V8 and I'm replacing the front brakes/rotors/calipers with the 5th gen centrics. Where did you get the LED inside light kit from?

I was 5'8" and 255lbs in bulk stage, even today I can walk in and bench 405 for reps:) I'm down to 201 now but mainly due to 3 day a week cross fit, I get time at work:). I won't go into my weights but let's say I used to move heavy shit and now at 37 I'm paying for it in my joints especially...

The light kit for interior was Amazon the only 18 light led kit that's for sale was and was 17bucks:). I have started magic erasing the trim and it's working great so will do that, I honeslty will probably dip the whole 4Runner in the future but not just the trim:)

The spray on aircraft stripper I don't recommend unless your like me and live next to the beach, or your clear coat is really yellowed. If it is I actually just went with the Walmart brand - there was only one aerosol type in the store:). FYI Justin just looked at your avatar and your coasty so would be worthwhile for you, salt kills the clear coat on our rims!

Been reading up on the damn Fj 6" lift and 35's instead of the 3" and 33's. Main stopping point is my commute, not the cost but thinking I'll do the 285's and 3" front and 1.5 in the rear for now and consider the 35's for replacements. I have done 2 SAS's in the past so not sure I won't go that way as well, but the full time 4wd doesn't help that as I would have to do a tundra transfer case or inchworm or something like that...

The other thing is the weight, I can get 285's at 54 lbs a piece, lightest 35's or 325's I'm seeing are around 71lbs.... I have ran a lot of 35's but never on yotas, mainly due to the wheel bearings lol. I have ran 36" military tires on one if my dad but they were not steel belted and weighed like 30 lbs, look for 16.5 rims if you want some of them.

I was still a newb! Lol. I know there was tons of potential, but Ya with the hard construction work I've done most of my life my body hates me.
6" lift - many will try to deter you. I won't. Lol. The rough country kit is my favorite because it doesn't need anything cut. It is completely bolt on/off. It has full lift coils for the rear as well. Beefy skid plate and spindle too. All for $1300. Radflo makes coilovers and shocks for the kit that are longer and allow extended travel too for another $1500 if you wanted a badass ride quality.
SAS- I'm looking at that. 1 tons, 40" tires. Allpro has a SAS kit. https://www.allprooffroad.com/tech-...2003-4runner/034runnerfrontsuspension/saskits and they have the steering kit below it. $2300 total, extra if you buy their axle. You can run your current rear with better long travel to save money until ready too.
Transfer case - FJ cruiser and 5th Gen 4runner trail edition have a manual tc that is completely bolt in. Just have to route the shifter. Then you can select 2wd too.
Tires- I have 35's. They are heavy. I've been through several wheel bearings but can't decide if it's the tires or another issue. Going through tie rods as well. V8 has no issues with 35's though.
I've thought about military tires, but thought they would be heavy. Can usually find them cheap though!

I have ran a lot of military tires, the Goodyear 36's the most, they are bias ply and not steel belted so are flat spotted every morning takes a few miles to get them true round again. The are extremely lightweight and throw mud very good, they suck in the rain and suck in the snow.... I had a siped set and they were awesome. I just don't like the 16.5 rims and the beads are known to pop off if you air down there is a whole explanation for this out there somewhere but worth it to beadlock them, the 37" hummer tires are hit or miss early ones were bias ply later ones are belted.

I have thoughts of some 37-40" tires that are extremely aggressive, possibly even tractor tread, for offroading only and then a different set for daily driving abilities. Then I don't have to worry about big lug tires with bad road and snow manners. Although my Hankook's are a little heavy, they have been the best all around tire I've ever had. I have over 50k on them now with 11/32nds left out of 20/32nds. I've read though that at the halfway mark they go downhill fast. I'm still happy with what I've got from them though! I'll look up the military tires.

Here is why I have ran them:

That's 4 rims and tires for 400 bucks... The Goodyear 36's are the bias play's, the mtr 37's are belted but unlike civy side they are 80-100k tread life as made with more rubber...

Oh and the run flats are just an insert on the rim, you would need different rims but o ran eagle rims for super cheap in the past. You do not want to run with the run flat inserts btw

Hmm, how about adapters to run the military rims too? Lol
Why not use the run flat insert?

Because if you air down for the trails you are eating up the inside of your tires - the hummer run flats are designed to get to the nearest base and replace.

If you want to convert to the hummer rims it's simple, the Dana 60 and Sterling 8 lugs that are common for SAS are much better than an adapter;-)

Threw my CB antenna on and ran the coax before this latest tropical storm rain band hit, pouring on me now:)

I've thought about military axles... Just sooooooo heavy! Lol
