Several, they won't touch used tires for mounting and on top of that they charge 35+tax a tire for mount and balance they are the most expensive in my area.

I wish, I called every shop in town, townsend tires is a used tire shop, the issue is the used tires... I can get a hookup at a couple of tire shops but they will not touch used tires as typically they won't balance. Cheapest I have paid in the last 6 years was around 45 for 4, but that place went out of business
Regardless, I have 140 bucks into 4 285's so can't complain too much. I was back and forth on the 33's and 35's, I'll drive for a while like this but honestly, the 33's may just get the promotion to new tires. Time will tell though and these just give me the ability to hit trails, and decide on the tires I want long term while not looking like an idiot that skipped leg day
Just unloaded the stockers out of the back, will get them up for sale tomorrow, will do some trimming ASAP in the front then hit some trails for some flex and see if I need additional trimming. Then once happy with that will join the local 4Runners group and hopefully hit up Hardrock for the first time since 2012, and first time ever in a 4Runner last time was in my Jeep
STill has the tires in the back in this pic, but had to turn back as was walking in once I got home lol.

Thanks man, I enjoyed every moment of my time in - been out of uniform for just over 3 years now, still feels weird as I served for 16 total, well just over 16 actually. I miss it all the time and now working back on base and NASA I am around the lifestyle again and makes me miss it often. I get to the gym on base 2 times a week for crossfit at a lunch session, the military guys I work with go 4 times a week on average and don't rush back. I was that guy, lifting and working out was my way of life for a really long time, and Iwas paid to do it. Now I use my mind and bust my ass and if I was single, would be good money. But with wife and 3 kids feels like i'm making nothing...
Anyway, thanks and enjoy the thread, it will keep going and going. Trail pics and breakage soon I"m sure

Embrace life brother! We are a single income family with two youngins right now. I am just starting to embark on the modded 4-Runner life on a budget!
(not to detract from the build too much, but I'm a phone system engineer who lifts iron on his lunch breaks too!)
Anyway, look forward to the next steps on your build.:biggrin2:

Have to say, BFG's drive so good even worn down, the truck drives the best it ever has with the 285's and worst tire was 4.5 oz to balance. Will be hard for me not to buy the KO2s after these used ones are this nice and not to mention I ran used 285's on my last runner and the were ko's

Found out Ido have some contact points when Really pushed off-road
Also the amount of tread on the tires leaves something to be desired as it's not deep enough to really be able to clean them out with tirespin, at least in wet sand.
Oh well, had a blast playing around on Christmas eve with my older daughter - we were waiting till the younger daughter woke up from her nap then picking up wife and baby to head out so hit a few places I found to try it out

Those were flex pics on purpose obviously, fun stuff was just before that as you can see already had the front flares popped out lol.
Here was so sideways reached out window and touched the ground, she was a bit nervous

I wasn't impressed with the bfg at's, thought they were the worst tire I've ever had. Struggled through everything, got my new Hankook MT's and blast through it with ease! I even switched back to my stock sized Hankook ATM while I waited on the MT's to come in the bfg's were so crappy. Got them cheap though, and gave me a chance to clearance before the 35's, so can't complain!

I ran them in the past with good luck but it wasn't as capable of a rig the last really capable rig I had that I daily drive was my little TJ and I had duratraks on it in the 315 size and they did clean out better than these. They are wore down but I'm kinda leaning towards paying a little more and getting the TOyo MT's now in at least a 285/75 which is just over 34 so will get the height, the crazy mileage out of the tires - have a buddy with 93k on his 10ply toyo mt's- and won't take as bad a hit on gas mileage as these 285/70's I have only lost about a mpg. Thankfully not tire decision time yet so will probably change my mind as such a cheap bastard but can say I will not run Terra grapplers again nor trail grapplers great tires but wear out while sitting there so damn soft.

I have over 55k on my Hankook dynapro MT's, half tread left. Only issue I've had is they became egg shaped. Not sure what caused that, but they still do great in everything! I want to get them siped because the siping has worn off now and they slide around in slush. Still dig through the snow though. I think I'm going to try the Federal Couragia MT because I can get a great deal for rims and 35's on eBay. I've thought about the Toyo MT's too. Buddy of mine had some fierce attitude tires and really liked them. 4 rims, 17x8.5 - 12 with 35x12.5x17 federal couragia tires is around $1600 though. Hard to beat the package deals on ebay!

I watch those package deals as well but for me would need 5 rims and tires as when I buy I will get rid of my spacers and would also rig up a full size spare with trailer hitch swing down or rear bumper. I actually like the race line in silver they have and the federal s are all around here in Florida and not that great, I had no idea you had that many in the hancooks as I can get pretty good deal on them.... I will consider them as well now!

I love the kooks! They've been great on everything and aren't that noisy either. I would get them again but I need rims that are offset and don't have that rock ring, sand/mud/snow catcher! And that aren't bent... Lol so it'll be the combo package.
What issues have you seen with the federals? I haven't found much info, seen many running them but no in person reviews.

15-20k Tops! Require every oil change rotations, require lots of weight and the real killer here in Florida is they are absolutely horrible in the rain, just will soon when taking off from the large lugs and hydroplane as well as locking brakes up pretty easily in rain. I drove on a set for a bit, then traded them for some of the kumho mud terrains and they were 1000 times better!

Walked out to this before work....
Little pump wasn't enough till I lifted the tire then it took off.
Have fix a flat in it now grabbed some on way to work and filled up the tire rest if the way, got to 15psi with the pump and headed to get gas and air.
Bought some stuff on way home to make me feel better! A workman swr and power guage to tune out the antenna and cb, an elbow to mount the cb better and a jumper to test the cb out. I'm not convinced I didn't link my dang antenna cable when installing so haven't been using much. Also decided going to tear into the cb remove the talk back lock out and tweak it as have been told my little old uniden will put out 8watts easy with a few little spacing objects and a couple of soilder moves. Would love to have a tuned cb setup and now have the tools to do it!

I made a wall mount for it and have not did any cleaning yet, just making storage and getting things off the floor, tonight I will go out and start cleaning a bit - can't stand it being unorganized.
