Vapor Canister silencer box fabrication?

Thanks to this forum i now know that it's "normal" for my 96 t4r to make a sound from the vapor canister like a bee is stuck someplace around there. This happens when the engine is off and can vary depending on the temps outside.

I understand that the silencer box that toyota made to fix this issue is no longer available.

My question is, can this really be that hard to fabricate? Perhaps find something that could act in place of the silencer box?

Maybe a bit of pvc to act as a canister (pseudo silencer) and then a couple adapters or something for the hose connections?

This can't be all that hard but i really have no idea HOW the silencer box is really doing it's job. That would help to know.

I forgot the user name but someone used a small tin mustard box with barbed connectors as a makeshift silencer box. I am planning on doing this project when I get a day off, it looks pretty simple.
