Been here for a bit, but only now discovered this thread. Stock '14 SR5, with sliders, but am actively looking for new tires in stock size. Toyos, Falkens, Nittos...too many choices.

I did the western half of Rocky Gap/Potato Ridge into Lovell Canyon in '07, but with my Land Cruiser. Pic of this trail is my avatar. It was pretty true to it's name, but doable. Sliders were a must (and I have a decent rub mark to show for it). Our crew had a full size Ram 2500 on 35s, and it's biggest hurdle was body width. We also spent some time recovering an earlier gen 'Burban on 31" tires--got to break in my 48" Hi-Lift, so that was a learning experience. A Jeep TJ with 31" and a 3" lift made it through with ease. I can't comment on how the trail has changed since the last few years of rain.

How'd you guys like burro wash? When you get to the river is the best part but the trail itself isn't that bad. Sorry I haven't been able to meet up lately been hella busy with stuff. I'll check back to see if you guys plan another off road trip again.



Would like to see every generation of 4runners out on the trail. So far most of you guys have 4th or 5th gens. Anyone have a 1st or 2nd gen.

I enjoyed Burro Wash trail. It wasn't that bad and a stock 5th gen made it through without a problem. I hit bottom a couple of times when heading back out through the sandy bumpy straight away catching air a couple times.

I can probably do Saturday morning (Can't do Sunday this week).

In addition to the lake bed (time permitting) would you be interested in either or both of the trails I suggested earlier in this thread both of which are near Jean.

Goodsprings area (about 15 mi west of Jean)
Yellow pine mining district trail -5.1 miles plus 0.8 mi spur; book says 45min including spur

And/or

Table mountain trail- 3.0miles plus 1.2mi spur; book says 45min one way

I've done the Table Mountain Trail and I'd say its probably slightly less difficult than Burro Wash, except it does run along shelf roads so if anyone has a fear of heights you they may not enjoy. Leads to some old abandoned mine sights/ruins and some cool overlooks of the dry lake bed area.

There is also a historic saloon in Goodsprings called the Pioneer Saloon. We could grab a beer there afterwards.

Shelf roads huh, how close to the edge are they? I fear heights.

Yes similar to that very first part, but I don't recall the road becoming so narrow that it requires a spotter... and its probably 1 or two short sections that may be like that. At the very end of the trail near the mine shafts are a little scary but I just parked it a bit up the road and walked the last few hundred feet to the mines... I could have driven it but turning around may have been a little hairy.

We can avoid that trail and stick to the lake bed area, I'm good either way.

Haha. Fortunately mine is silver so there shouldn't be any confusion. I'd love to ride this weekend but my dad is coming to town to visit. Next time though!

Hahahaha. Not even, your guys rigs are just as capable as the 3rd gens, but it would be nice to have another 3rd gen to talk shop about. Mines mostly stock so it would be nice to see what he did to his so far.

Can't do this weekend but maybe next Saturday if anyone else is down. Rocky Gap Road sounds like fun but if I need a lift, sliders and armor then I'm out of that trail till I get those. The trails by goodsprings that I did in that book your using weren't that great, just to let you know.

I did rock gap road last year around this this time of year, I didn't think it was too bad. I did dent up my running board a bit after I caught up to a jeep group and they tried to spot me (I really didn't them to spot).

I went from East to West when I did it last year. I think it is supposed to be a little easier that way, but you will have to pay the $7 entry fee into Red Rock.

Whatever trail you want to run, I'll try and keep up. I liked the one that crosses the pass between 93 and meets up by Primm on 15.

Thanks for the input [MENTION=106215]chiz45[/MENTION]; based on what I've read online it seems to have gotten a little less difficult over the past few years. Before I think it was high clearance modified vehicles only... Not saying its easy, definitely want good ground clearance and probably some decent skids and be accepting of some scraps.

Ok so it doesn't look too bad. Maybe I might be able to do it.

A group of FJs from the LV FJ club ran it a couple weeks ago and posted pictures on Facebook. At least 1or2 were stock w/only AT tires and may have dragged a bit in the rougher spots but made it.

My only hesitation is nobody has a winch in case someone does get stuck, and I wouldn't feel comfortable spotting people especially if their truck ended up getting damaged.

With all that being said.... I'm in for giving it a shot.
