I haven't gotten my replacements yet but I plan on steel for the same reason. The minor weight savings won't make any difference to me and I would prefer the added strength in case (or more accurately, WHEN) I do something stupid.

Fairly new to T4R, but def not to Forums. Just thought I'd drop on by. Recently bought a 3rd gen and currently own an 87 SAS pickup. Would like to go on some trail runs with you folks

There is a third option, lighter steel. You'll see these from RCI and Bud, as well as the Asfir and ARB offerings.

I had ideas of what I "needed" to do to the truck, but after watching the Expedition Overland vids, my "wants" and "needs" perception changed. After finally admitting that I won't wheel as much with this truck, I replaced my front skid with aluminum, because I wanted something better than stock.

I ended up falling into a set of bud built. Love them. A little heavy, but i do alot of overlanding and ive hit them on the trail a few times. Well worth it imo

I went with the aluminum RCI skids. Less than half the weight of steel. Haven't tried them out yet, so can't say how they will take a serious hit.
 
You have everything you need, like the spring compressor and all that? I have no idea what it takes or how to do it. I have no tools and one arm just had surgery so it's pretty much useless.

Got it all. I have a smashed thumb, so we're good to go. Lol
 
Im all in on some light to moderate desert or trail runs. Just drove the TRD back from Memphis a few weeks ago. I have every weekend free with the exception of the next two. (golf tournament and flying back for TCU vs OU).
