Had a 2.5y battery go bad this evening after work. AAA ran some tests and would not replace the battery as there is a 1.68a drain on the printout with the engine and all accessories off.

The 04 limited is stock except for the magnaflow for the 4.7

Any way to test?

On my other truck I pulled 1fuse at a time till I located the correct circuit. From there the fun began.

Yep it's really stock with 166k miles. I bought it from my folks when they got a 2010 model. The sub is blown but Ark's post has me putting a JL amp/sub package together but nothing has been ordered yet. I have a multimeter but not sure how to test.

I would start by making sure there aren't any lights on. Seems silly but check all the little stupid lights like the ones in the sun visor mirrors, etc. If you don't find anything I think your stuck doing what ebg18t suggested.

I don't know maybe someone else will chime in.

Normally the 4R is on the driveway and a street lamp lights up the area. Tonight the 4R is in a dark garage. I noticed a amber glow and when I looked closely I could see the display panel right above the hvac controls is lite and the clock was on.

Is this normal operation?

Nope, it should be off.

Thanks jimithing for the confirm that the display should be off. After a little research the part should be the Multi-Function Display in the center console. I found a 2003 4R wiring diagram (a bunch of PDFs) but have not found the circuit for the display.

This is part of the HVAC cluster.
In a day or two, I'll have an extra set of the internal electronics from one that i'm hacking up as we speak. You are welcome to it, see if it solves the problem. Just PM me your mailing address...i'll send it over.

I'm converting my audio set up in my 2007 SE, and I bought a full HVAC cluster off of Ebay designed for the JBL set up. I was going to sell the original non-JBL cluster; but, I scratched up the air temp rocker knob, so i'm going to salvage the knobs out of the old cluster. The circuit board, and screen will be available.
I can send a picture later this afternoon of the components that will be available.

For anyone that wants the wiring docs here is the link http://www.ezdries.net/Vidpics/4Runn...%20Diagram.zip

It's for a 2003 but should be similar.

Jaden78, are you getting physical media or electronic?

For everyone, could a relay cause this?

The link didnt work for me but, that circuit should only get power with the key switch in the ACC position or ON. It seems as if theres a short in that circuit allowing constant power even with the switch off. If I could look at the wiring diagram i could be of more assistance I'll be able to look at my diagrams when i get of work here soon an possibly help.

I hooked up a fat max battery booster/combo unit to get some power into the system. My folks are in town so I had my dad sit and watch the multi function display. I pulled all the relays in the engine bay first, then the little spade fuses near the driver's left knee and then the little fuses in the engine bay.

When I pulled the 20amp radio #2 fuse (it's the first one closest to the tire and the front bumper) the MFD turned off. When I put the fuse back it the clock comes back on but the amber glow is gone. I hooked up the amp meter and now I'm at a 1.0amp draw.

Pulled the relays out one at a time again and noticed the acc/off relay actually makes the draw go up higher. Not sure what the normal draw is when the 4R is off but mine is steady at 1.0amps.

I guess I need a bit more info here.

Are you pulling fuses when everything is off? Because you said the MFD turned off. If the car was off, it would be off to begin with.

Also, I take it you are using a jumper pack with an amp gauge?

Also if you had a 1.68A drain you would have a dead battery in about 2 days. Is that the case? How did AAA determine that it had a 1.68A drain? What did they use to test it? How long did they test it for?

Erich

Yes only pulling fuses when engine is off using a jumper pack as a power source.

2 days is about right. Once I pulled the Radio #2 fuse that only supplies the JBL amp the MFD started acting normal. From what I seen on the wiring diagrams there is no connection between the Fuse #2 and the MFD. That is the weird part ;)

AAA has a nice setup. A induction loop on the negative and fancy gizmo about 4"x4"x10" hooked to the battery.

When I first pulled #2 radio fuse the draw went down to 1.0 (the MFD glow went out as well). So now the draw is a fairly steady 1.0 amps with the fuse back in. So now the #2 radio fuse does not change the draw just that very first time.

Update: Took to dealer where I purchased my 07 Camry. They are scratching their heads as well. They did replace a frozen front caliper ;)

Update 2: 2 weeks and still no source of the drain. I think they are working on it at the end of the day if they have nothing else better to do as they have not asked for additional $.
