One of the things that drives me crazy this time of year is that when my temp control hits the 'low' setting or just before it the reciruclate button lights up and fresh air stops, and just as annoying that it does it when I start the 4 runner and it was left on the low setting. My friends 05 doesn't do it. A tech at Toyota said he thought it could be programmed out but wasn't sure. Anyone have any luck with this?

Sungod, it does it on my '05 and it's an annoyance to me as well. It's one more thing I need to do when I get in the truck. I know it's such a small thing that I just turn it off everytime, but when it's 65 degrees out and I start my truck, the air is cooler outside than inside and I always have to turn it off.
I just want it to stay where I left it. It seems to aggrivate me during the spring and fall most when you tend to switch from heat to cool. I could understand it doing so with the AC on, but there is no reason to automatically go to recycle just because you drop the temp.
I compalin to my friend with a grand cherokee and he laughs and says that he wishes he could complain about something so trivial.

Yep. Mine does that too. I've only had it a little over a month now so haven't used it in any season but summer. Good to know I'm not the only one who's aggravated by this (minor aggravation though). I scoured the manual and there's no mention of really when or why this happens.
It doesn't make sense most of the time. Especially if the AC is off. Some days, even if it's kind of warm - around 80. I'll put all the windows down, open the sunroof and let the vent blow in some fresh air.
It's sort of annoying when things are built to 'help' and end up causing an extra step. Sorta like that little paper clip guy that Microsoft used to include in MS Word.
The other little thing like this that I find weird/annoying in my T4R is that the dash lights never go off. I don't want to prematurely burn out my dash lights so I find myself dimming them everyday, then having to turn them on in the evening. I've never been in, heard of, or owned a car that left the dash lights on all the time. Very odd design decision, that.

Many cars nowadays have the gauges "light up" even when the lights are off. Don't worry about "burning them out". They are LEDs, by the time they burn out, your 4Runner will a soda can.

this drives me insane because its so odd. when i turn on my headlights they don't dim either. the radio and climate control dims, but the speedo lights don't.
