Vent Visors - In Channel Or 3m?

I too, drive with my windows partially open at hwy speeds sometimes. I purchased the 3M brand because I feared the in-channels would somehow fly off. Unfortunately, you have give and take with both models. I don't like the sticky effect of the tape but feel more secure than having the in channels. Just my opinion.....btw, I still haven't installed the visors yet.

I really doubt the inchannel would ever fly off. At least with the Weathertech ones, not sure about the others.

They are a tight fit, and dont' move at all once in place. I've had mine for just over a year, and haven't noticed any problems with them yet.

I had the stick on ones on the old Runner, and I'll never go back to those. The in channel ones just have such a sleeker look to them.
 
Update on removing that 3M tape after I removed my ventvisors with heatgun....

No luck with dental floss, fishing monofiliment line, etc. The residual tape just balls up, and the line doesn't cut it, even if I tie knots to help the sawing action....that was 3M's advice.

And since I'm not down the glue part yet, the 4 different goo removal products don't work yet.

What a friggin' mess. Right now I'm waiting a month or so for the weather to hopefully break down and dry rot the exposed tape. When I get a little time I carefully hack on a half inch at a time, get frustrated and quit.

Ohh man! Are you serious about how tough it is to remove this adhesive tape? I still haven't installed my 3M visors or sunroof visor yet. After reading your post I am having second and third thoughts about this sticky situation.

I am considering buying inchannels and the clip on moonroof protection. I am not as concern about the moonroof visor as I am about the side vent visors when it comes or trade-in or resale value. The moonroof visors wouldn't make as much of a difference as the side windows.

:confused: Why side visors should low the resale value and moonroof deflector not...?
 
Oh yeah fo-runner, when I pulled the visors off after acquiring this used runner, I carefully applied a heat gun. Unfortunately the tape released from the visor instead of the truck, leaving that ugly black strip. Thank goodness the window frame there is already black, or everytime I look out of my office window, I would get more aggravated.

Since that window frame is slightly dimpled, it makes removal even tougher, since you don't have a flat surface to scrape on with plastic scraper or such.
 
My friend works at a body shop and if I ever remove my sticky tape versions my friend said he has stuff to remove the tape residue and then a quick light buff with some mild rubbing compound will make it look like I never had 'em on. He removed a set from his wife's Tahoe with no issues.

Because not many people mind the moonroof deflector as the feelings are not as outwardly negative against it as with the side ventvisors. In other words, the moonroof visor is seen as more of a norm than the side visors to many buyers....thus the side would lower your resale value. Especially if the next buyer has as much trouble removing the adhesive as mnormand is having with his right now!
 
just got myweathertech's today and installed them in 1o minutes with no hassles at all. weathertech is the way to go, quality and craftsmanship is superior. i wasted my money on autoventshades.
 
Has anyone purchased the clear visors and painted them to match the body color? I have seen this done on a couple pickup trucks but not on a T4R. Just wondering how it would look.

I had the Weathertechs on my Chevy 1500 (slip in type), they were on for 3 years and never had a problem with them.

Everyone should have a bottle (Spray bottle) of "De-Solv-it". It is a orange citrus based solvent. It is sold at Wal-mart in the household cleaning section. This is the most amzing stuff, it works like NOTHING else. The real amazing thing is, it is safe to touch and it will not affect paint or any other surface. I keep a bottle in the house and the garage. It is a cheap MUST-HAVE product!

I wouldn't paint them since their visibilty looking through them is adequate but they still increase your blindspot a little and painting them would really make it bad.

You might want to try autoanything.com first. Although it was a few months ago, I think I paid a lot less for the same. Check it out, that's all I'm sayin'.

i did but it cost a lot now, they have dark smoke which is $115.95

good thing about everythingsuv.com is they have the pricematch policy.
 
Vent Visor Flew Off

I have a set of the AVS vent visors and i've had them since Jan 04 and just a few days ago the drivers window visor flew off while i was in the 405 freeway. It has been loose for a while and I always made sure to secure it, but i guess i forgot that day. I noticed that it was loose so i lowered the window slightly so i can try to push it into place and...whoosh...off it went. All the other windows are fine and they are all secure, for somereason this one always wanted to escape and it finally did. time to look into some weathertechs.
 
I have the WeatherTech visors, the only thing I have to say about these visors is that they look great, however, I am still having some issues with the driver's window, the automatic feature is not working, the window is sticking to the visor, anyone with ideas as to how to solve this?
 
I like the macneil weatherflectors because they're inchannel. I think they look better because they're flush and OEM. The 3M looks a bit tacky with the adhesive part taped to the window rim part of the door. Plus they might fly off during high speeds; like one person mentioned while driving on the 405.

They're a bit pricey, $95 for a set at weathertech.com. I'm sure they're worth it, I can't seem to trust eBay anymore. Too many knock-offs and not enough reviews.
