ViAir 88p VS Slime 40026 2x -Thoughts???

I need a compressor bad! I was thinking of buying a Slime 40026 2x model cuz the reviews seem really good, but ViAir 88p seems to be proven as one of the best.

Anyone have the Slime or any good suggestions. I only want to spend the $70 with shipping that these units cost. I don't need more or less or bigger or faster unless it costs the same. I want reliability mostly. Thanks

POINTS OF COMPARISON:

Slime weighs 10lbs and the ViAir weighs 5lbs.
The Slime has a longer cord and hose by about 9ft
The connectors are standard on the Slime
No fuse on the Slime, just an auto shut off
Fuse on the ViAir.
The hard case is a plus for the Slime, but not really I guess
ViAir and Slime warranty are both 1 yr
Run time seems about the same (Slime just says about 10min--ViAir has 45% at 100psi or about 10min)
Battery connectors are bigger on Slime than ViAir--better connection??
Power seems to be almost tic for tac between these 2 units to me unless I'm missing something

Pass on both of those pumps. If you are trying to buy an inexpensive air pump you can count on get the Q industries MV50. Its available online and in just about any auto parts store (often sold as a store brand - look for the MV-50).

I can't find a CFM rating on the Slime, they claim, Inflates standard car tire in just 2 minutes (0-35psi,P195/65-15). MV-50 will do that in 1 minute.

Rated at 2.54CFM, it will significantly outperform the Viair 88P.

I have a Viair 450P as my primary and an MV-50 as the back-up. The 450P is better made, better features, etc. When I have two vehicles airing up the 450P takes about 25% less time to fill the tires than the MV50. That's a strong performance from a pump that cost about 25% of what the Viair 450P did. The MV50 is very reliable, offroaders have been beating on these things for years. It is the best choice for a ~$60-70 air pump.

Thanks David! I went to Pepboys just now and bought the MV-50--they gave it a new item# of MF-1050 and call it a Master Flow Tsunami---The reviews seems REAL mixed on Amazon. I got 15% off, so it was $55 with tax and Pepboys is only 2 miles from my job. I'm gonna try it out. I have 90 days to return for full refund if it starts acting up.

Like I said before, its an awesome $60-70 pump - it's not a $300 pump no matter how fast it pumps! I think it will serve you well, try it, take it back if you are unhappy. I hope to read a follow-up review from you after you have tried it for a while.

Edit - I went and looked at the Amazon reviews and it seems as if some people are using this w/ the cig lighter and blowing fuses. If you have an adapator for the cigarette lighter w/ your pump - DON"T USE! This pump pulls too many amps for that, it needs to be clamped on to the battery posts.

Also, I always keep my truck running when running either of my pumps so as to not drain the battery...

I actually am in the market for this unit because I bought myself a 8' pontoon boat for fishing. Does anyone have experience with low pressure, high volume applications such as filling inflatables? These pontoons are probably 3-4 cubic feet each, but only take about 2 psi max and I am wondering how long it would take to fill then.

I don't air down much when 4-wheeling, but I would prefer to buy an inflator/compressor that will adequately perform both functions. I like to buy right the first time and I have found the Tsunami MF-1050 on Ebay from Pep Boys for $58.99 including freight, saving almost $10 off their in store price including tax.

Well, I took the plunge and answered my own question. I actually paid the little extra to get the Tsunami MF-1050 directly from Pep Boys for $.64.99 plus tax, just in case it didn't fill my pontoon bladders adequately so I could easily return it, but it works great. I jerry-rigged the filler adapter by making a new recoil assembly with a quick coupler body on either end, so I could put the filler hose from the pontoon on a quick coupler plug. Other than that, this baby works great! It takes less than 3 minutes to fill each of the pontoon bladders, and doesn't hardly get hot either. Yet to see how it fills tires after airing down, but based on the comments on this forum, that should be just as good, too!

I had the Viair 88p. It seemed to be built well and it performed well.
But after a year or so, and only a few times using it, it developed a huge air leak and wouldn't function.
The pipe fitting to the cylinder broke in 2.
Not sure how, I stored it in a Pelican case.
Maybe the case took a hit. Maybe it fell on the ground when I was using it.
Im considering the Slime. I want to try something different.
