vibration at idle

I have a new to me 2014, SR5, 4wd, 115k miles and trying to clean it up a bit so you will see multiple posts from me looking for advice on repair/replace projects.

The truck vibrates at idle. You can feel it sitting in the drivers seat and see it when you let down the glove box. It is not terrible, but definitely does it, sometimes worse than others. Idles at around 7k RPM. I took the car to my local dealer for an oil change and full inspection. They suggested I do a Fuel Induction Service to resolve this issue which to me sounds like a Wallet Reduction Service. Anybody done this? Heard of it? Did it work?

I have a 2019 2wd with 60k miles and it does not vibrate. Can you have two many T4r's?

So far i have cleaned the throttle bottle which was not that dirty. I have new air filter and spark plugs on the way from Rock Auto. Any other ideas about this issue? I figure if the spark plugs don't change it I might try some fuel additive and if that doesn't work I go for the $160 Fuel Induction.

Autoparts store guys tried to tell me my alternator voltage regulator was failing and that the voltage change was causing the system to draw from the battery, then the alternator, then the battery again and this was causing the skip. This sound like poppycock as well, but I am no mechanic. Do T4R alternators go out at 115K?

1. The alternator story is hooey. Just another wallet reduction ploy.

2. If you buy Top Tier gas, as recommended by the Toyota factory and stated in the current owners manuals, you should not have to clean the intake, for Top Tier gas has more cleaners than required. Ditto for any fuel additives. Homepage Top Tier gas will also help keep the fuel injectors clean.

3. Rough idle (not speed hunting) is probably caused by a misfire. Replacing the spark plugs is a good start on solving that problem. You might check the OBD II codes. If you have a serious misfire, the computer will detect it and report a code. Rough Idle can also be caused by dirty fuel injectors. Consistent use of Top Tier gas will help keep them clean.

all my stations, BP, Shell and QT are listed in the top tier section so I should be good there. I will post feedback after the spark plug change.

Having been in the auto industry for 20+ years being both technician and service advisor I can tell you that fuel induction does serve a purpose as the PCV system does deposit oil vapor and “crud” in the intake system which coats the intake valves, this can cause idle quality issues.

In your case I’d look into the engine mounts being worn/compressed/hardened, from what your describing I’d be very curious if they’ve been inspected. I’m sure replacing spark plugs would be beneficial as your approaching the service life, but unless they’ve been inspected and condemned to be excessively worn I wouldn’t assume that’s your issue. As for the alternator that’s about what I’d expect from a parts guy, just throw that idea away
