Video Cameras UNDER the Vehicle

Has anyone ever thought of mounting a pair of video cameras under the truck? I'm imagining at the bottom of the frame rails on either side pointed forward where the would show the bottom of the of the main skid plate and the bottoms of both lower control arms.

I usually get out of the truck and take a close look at the obstacles ahead before I attempt to cross them. As I am usually off roading alone and don't have a handy spotter along, I think a set of "clearance cameras might be a good idea.

What do you all think?

It's a brilliant idea, but they would either have to be shielded like crazy or easily removable .

I mainly just want a forward down facing camera for the grill when crawling or even when parking.

I would be concerned about how well they would hold up from mud and water coming off the road just from everyday driving. Not to mention any deep water or mud you would get into offroad. It is a cool concept though.

Yeah, this. I think cameras under the truck would be broken off in short order.

I have a 4/camera system from Rydeen that would allow for that. I find the front facing to be the most useful but passenger side is also often one I select when off-roading. Under would get so dusty that it would be useless in almost no time and then it would just be frustrating.

I've also considered hardwiring a GoPro to transmit to my phone or iPad. Isn't it Rigid that makes a light bar for that purpose even?

Mount a small camera in your grille. Buy a big ol smart phone that can get link up with the camera and you ate set.

For the cost of the one Bluetooth license plate camera I have seen you can build a 4 camera system and have money left over.

I have the plug and play dongle and the 4 input switcher. Have rear and a front one currently. The front is bottom of the grill above the plate. Although this is a good location for parking, if going uphill, it doesn't aim down. I have another camera that I wanted to mount in front but just haven't gotten to it yet. Thinking of the bottom of the license plate fram bottom of tge plastic garnish.

Amazon has them. I currently have this one and its been working great. Used BYIGUY's dongle (that sounds wrong...haha)

I got it from Amazon. Looks like it is $17.90 now and takes about 3 weeks to be shipped from overseas. It's made for Toyota Prado Highlander Land Cruise and works best with the 2010-2013 logos because it just pushes into the recesses and clips securely. You can also use in the logo of the newer model 4Runners, but you have to dremel out the recess.

I had it installed since the calibration requires a full additional kit (dealers have it though). It's a good kit but honestly I'd have been just as happy with a front and rear camera which I could have installed myself. It is cool but expensive.
