Video - Trying to diagnose sound beneath car

Hey guys, I have had some rattling/squeaking coming from the bottom of my 99 4runner for the last couple weeks that i'd love to get some opinions on. I took some videos with a GoPro camera of the underside of the car to see what was going on:

After watching the video, I don't know what that sound is. But I do know that I now want to put a camera under my truck just cause it looks pretty cool.

Almost sounds like it may be coming from the heat shield for the Cat but also seems more near the transfer case. But in the second camera view the sound goes away some and leads me to think 3rd member in the rear end making noise

Get under there with a rubber mallet and start tapping on everything. If there's a loose part, it'll squeak.

In my case, it was my top coil mounts squeaking on the coils. Little bit of oil took care of it.

Get a cheap stethoscope to isolate the sound's originator. It will sound much louder with the scope when you're on the source. Luck. :cowboy:

The last rattle/ squeak i had turned out to be a loose upper rear shock mount.

It sounds like a loose shield to me. Your gas tank shield looks pretty good, have you taken it off and painted it by any chance? Heat shield on the converter was a good suggestion also, or maybe the one between the exhaust and the floorpan.

The frequency of the noise doesn't seem to vary with vehicle speed, so I'm thinking it's something moving back and forth rather than something that's rotating with the driveline.

I once had a squeaking rat cage sound only when I let off the throttle. It was quiet during acceleration and deceleration, but annoying when coasting with not much throttle. Turned out to be the driveshaft in that case.

This sounds EXACTLY the same as mine did when I first got the truck. Do the driveshafts and U-joints again. The fact that it is louder/quieter under acceleration versus coasting indicates to me that it’s on the driveline. Mine would do it worst while coasting and then somewhat go away during acceleration, but same difference.

Very interested in the outcome of this one as my 2000 is doing the same thing but worse. I can hear that godawful coasting chirp in my sleep, fellas. :crazy:

Definitely a squirrel in there, I’d give gwt that thing out I’m out immediately! All jokes aside it sounds like a heat shield or something like the others have mentioned
