vinegar/water mix to remove hard water marks?

Someone was telling me that they keep a spray bottle filled with a 50:50 mix of distilled white vinegar and distilled water on hand to spray and wipe their vehicle down to remove hard water marks (guy gets hit by the neighbors sprinkler system), he than follows this up with a spray and wipe of distilled water only.

This one is new to me...Anyone ever do this?

Well, breaking the sprinkler system was the first choice...

The vinegar/water solution seems harmless. I took a look at the guys car (2008 black audi of some sort), and the paint is in immaculate condition. I found a few other references on the internet for this also. Seems people use anywhere from a 1:1 to 1:4 (vinegar:water) solution.

i had a buddy who owns a centurion boat so he was constantly on the lake, every time he would load his boat he would wipe it down with the mix of water and vinegar to get the water spots. never tried it myself but he said it works real good, i may give it a try on my 4runner.

If you're skeptical about putting vinegar on your paint, use it on your windows only. This is good stuff!

Vinegar is an acid, no thanks on my paint. Windows, OK.

I just used vinegar to clean my coffee pot and took all the depsits away. Never thought of using it for the vehicles though.

The 4runner I just purchased had really BAD water spots on all of the windows. Unfortunately I did'nt see this thread until after the fact. I ended up using glass cook top cleaner and a slightly worn nylon scouring pad/sponge. It took a LOT of elbow grease and ended up taking around 15 minutes per window. I can still see a few spots at certain angles, but all in all its 10 times better than when I started. The cleaner cost $3.59 for a 10oz bottle at Target. Hope this helps!
