Haha holy shit he really did. I never noticed it till I saw this post.
 
Thanks for posting this, guy I worked with (a while back, orig owner) had one. Never took the top off, ever. Shifting gears in it was a kin to a farm tractor. Neat vehicle, reliable, utilitarian, and easy to find parts for.
1st and 2nd gen 4runners seem to be creeping up here in the PNW. People are starting to realize how well built they are. I could see our 1990 4runner easily going another 100k without any issue(at 95k now). If you can keep the rust bug at bay, they are brilliant trucks with a lot of quality to them. The only issue I see going forward for these, parts availability is going down.
