Vinyl Carpet Replacement - Automotive Interiors

Finally we have 2 vehicles again and I can afford to tear apart my interior for a few days. Front driver area has a water leak that I'm trying to diagnose, likely a sunroof drain or I went too crazy with my pinch weld work.

Either way the the F/R passenger area carpet is getting replaced with this Automotive Interiors vinyl flooring:

Maybe this thread will be mildly helpful to anyone replacing carpet (I'm not good a writeups so don't expect to be wowed by a how-to) and we'll see how the vinyl replacement works out.

not as far along as I'd like to be, but hard to find free time lately

- leak fixed yay (it was my pinch weld cuts...)

- vinyl arrived, pretty much what I had hoped for: textured finish, somewhat malleable/rubberish kind of feel not stiff plastic like husky liners, plenty of excess for fitment, new under-padding pieces

- about 1/2 way through installing sound deadener, and then have some sound/heat insulation to install over top (just floors and rear wheel wells for now, may do doors and tailgate soon) I figured this was a smart thing to do since everything is out plus I imagine the vinyl could be a bit louder than carpet.

so I gave up pretty quick on the vinyl.

once it was in the truck I came to find it had verrrry few pre-molded contours. the most (only) noticeable ones were the indentations for the rear seats and even those didn't sit all the way into those grooves. also I think I was sent the wrong set of under-carpet padding, because I could not reconcile them to the original pieces or figure out a layout that made sense.

I'm sure if I had more time/skill I could heat, form, cut and it would be pretty cool, but I just don't.

wet carpet dried out nicely, no residual smell, cleaned it up nice and it's going back in!

at least I got some good sound dead/insulation installed for my trouble! going to see how much a difference it makes and then probably do the doors/hatch
