vinyl wrap vs plasti dip

I, like many here just can't warm up to the huge amount of chrome on the front of the new limiteds. I over looked this due to my dislike of the sr5,,trail front ends and some other nice creature comforts that the limited has to offer, so I'm left to either plasti dip or wrap the two larger chrome panels. I've seen a few people here plasti dip which looks nice, but it seems is a more of a matte finish and I would something to match my majestic black. I'm wondering if vinyl wrap would be possible or just a huge headache, or is plasti dip the way to go?

Both options will get you what you want. There are hundreds of colors and finish combinations available for both plasti dip and wrap. Wrap will probably hold up better but more expensive and dip is cool because you can easily touch it up if needed.

I didn't know that plasti dip comes in anything other than matte, so that's good to know. If I totally hate my work is it easy to remove? I'm here in Central Oregon and sure your aware of NW winters, do you think one will hold up more than the other?

Honestly, I would have it wrapped. Dip is cool since its cheap and easy but doesnt mean it will last. That 3m wrap is tough stuff and I think Dip looks a little cheap when its rattle-canned. But that is just my opinion.

Troy with Dipping unlimited in Kirkland WA did the work. Highly recommended. Flawless wrapped corners. Finished the front bumper, roof rails and trim on the sides. He will be wrapping my door handles and tail gate center piece next week.

Emblems were plastidipped.

[MENTION=116297]BigOlTater[/MENTION] , I think both options would be good for you, the plain black plastidip is flat but matches the black plastic that is already on the truck almost exactly, you can only tell a difference if someone pointed it out. I did mine just about a year ago now and it has held up phenomenally. Plus it really only cost about $40 in dip and 4hrs of time. I also matched the emblems with a combination of white and pearl plastidip. Only thing I would recommend if you go down the plastidip route is to use about 15 layers on the front bumper chrome. The 8 layers I used gets chipped pretty easily from flying rocks and I think a little more would have stopped that. It is really easy to fix with a small painters brush and some plastidip sprayed on a newspaper.

Thanks. It's not cheap. I wanted something durable and different from the standard matte black finish. Set me back roughly $350 for the front bumper and rear tail gate center piece, (front bumper most labor intensive piece). Each additional piece is a separate charge. Approx $25 for each chrome door strip, window chrome liner, $50 for the handles, (also labor intensive), $100 for the rails.

"Labor intensive" meaning piece needs to be removed. Not to be taken in the literal sense.

I have been thinking about the same thing for my SR5. Vinyl or plasti-dip.

I'm pretty sure I am going to plasti-dip the rear and the side molding pieces this weekend.

So I'm thinking about blacking out the top chrome piece just below the Toyota Sombrero, then the large price just below but only to the outer seems, so the only chrome would be around the fog lights and the small strip below. Let me know what you folks think. I think it would be a good balance.

Bumper had to come off. Troy removed the pieces individually. Which gave me an opportunity to swap out the stock fogs for TRS LED fogs.

Thanks. There is a fully wrapped GTR in brushed aluminum black. Costs a grip. Looks stellar. Just need to make sure the brushed lines flow well.

Upkeep is easy. Soap and water.

plasti dip for the win, easy to apply, comes in many colors and can be changed often if you want color options. the more coats the better

Just did this to my limited over the weekend. Mask off the large areas, but don't worry too much about overspray. The only tools you should have are an x-acto knife, rags, blue painters tape, and a plastic bone tool (helps get the overspray off in tight areas)

So far I have done the front chrome pc with the Toyota logo and the chrome pcs around the fog lights and this weekend I did the chrome pcs on the side of the truck, below the doors and the whole tailgate pc.

Next is the front and rear chrome bars on the bumpers.
