Viper 5901 Install price 699.00?

Installed Viper 5901 (alarm w/ auto start, to include Toyota module) cost is 699.00 installed :jaw drop:. Deal or rip off? Have an appointment set for Tuesday, just want to make sure money is being spent right.

I have the same alarm with auto start. I paid around 450.00, this was here in los angeles. Now keep in mind that 450.00 was the lowest price that I found, the alarm itself cost about 200.00 to 250.00 online. I think they are charging you a bit much, who is giving you these prices? I would continue to shop around for a better price.
 
Also what other things are you getting programmed with your alarm? Are you getting a back up battery with glass sensors, and control to open and close your windows? if so then maybe it is a good deal, nevertheless I would still shop around.
 
this is how it works, u buy an alarm off ebay, u take it to the shop to install, expect to pay 2-3 times the cost of the alarm, its a proven fact that when it comes to alarms for automobiles, that u should buy what the shop carries and usually they all have the same dei alarms, no matter if its clifford or viper or python, its dei, and they will work the same, the reason to buy at the shop is warranty, what happens when the ebay product fail, who is gona fix it? it would be yourself right since it wasnt bought from an authorize shop. ever thought about compustar? its more but a better product imho, never had a problem, but it has range 3000ft. or u can do 6000ft too.
 
well I know yours is a 5th gen and it might be a little more difficult to Install but you can get the alarm you want somewhere else like "riceandpho" said and just have a shop to install it.

I got my Python from ebay it came with everything evn with the option to register the product for the warranty . I went to a shop around here to install it and they just charged me if I am not mistaken $120 for the installation Best biy wanted $300+ just for installation....WTF!!.
In total with the bypass was $149. My Python which is not to fancy but good enough for me (and I mainly got it for the remote start) cost me $139 on ebay.

$288.00 parts and labor at a local shop.

I know you are going with the fancy one but still...thats too darn much....If I was you Ill keep looking around ask for both.... price Inlcuding the alarm and price just for installation. That way you will have an idea, compare prices and make the best decision to save you a few $100's
 
Thanks for the advice. I did shop around and found the dealer had the best price (next closet was BestBuy - but there was NO WAY.)

Ok, got the unit installed, had to pony up a key - since the interface did not want to work! I did have the dealer break off key portion and use transponder portion only.

The problem was they did not go over options. I mena they went over basics, but did not discuss what personal options I would prefer besides the DEFAULT settings- so I called them and they gave me the "umm, ahhh, come on back and we will program for you"... I was going to take it back to change the unlock pulse so that I had the drivers door unlock, and then the other doors unlock based on remote (as with OEM auto door unlock functions.) I programmed options myself by following installation manual I found online. (Very easy, by the way)
I have an appointment on Thurs to have T4R programmed to my liking (key/auto window function, etc.)

A long winded post and I still have more complaining to do, especially for the money spent vice the customer service given. At least the 4R was in perfect order when all was done...

I was quoted $599.00 without the Toyota starter module which is $70.00...so that's pretty comparable. I am going to schedule my install next week and the shop that's doing it is local and will guarantee their install as long as I have the vehicle.

Yeah mine was local, well known, and guaranteed for the life.
Just make sure you go over where you want antenna placed for two-way (the dealer had mine placed right behind rear view on windshield - couldn't see form drivers side but passenger side it was an eyesore. I moved the antenna up above the rear view mirror, near headliner.) You could see the antenna while looking form outside - now hidden in the "blacked out area behind mirror.
Also be sure to go over the programmable options before leaving, much easier to do with their interface system.
You may need to bring an extra key (I used my valet key) as interface may not work. Again, I had them break of key area and used only the transponder section. I figure I do not want to make it any easier for someone to take the vehicle. Cannot imagine using a working key in the vehicle for the alarm/auto start function - seems to work against the whole reason of putting in an alarm.
Here's a link for the Viper 5901 Install manual. If you look at pages 41-43 you will see the areas you can customize to your liking. Also 38-40 detail how to set by yourself (if you choose to change options in the future.)

Good luck and make sure hood pin switch is installed (comes with unit) - One last note you can have the alarm sound one tone for the alarm cycle duration vice going through the myriad of sounds (which most people ignore anyway.) Installer will need to clip a lead wire on horn in order to lock in one sound.
Your preference of course.

Great info! I was promised by the shop that I wouldn't need to give them my other key. On my last system an Autopage they used my extra key and every time I went to start the truck I had to turn the key, wait a sec, then start it, giving the truck enough time to recognize my key. I will talk to them about the antennae.

Are you able to hit unlock twice to open all the doors easily? On my last system this never worked right either and I had to go to the dealer to have the programming on the truck changed to all doors instead of the drivers first.
 
put a broadway 400mm rear view mirror over the stock, and it will cover it up nicer, plus no more blind spots, i also have my compustar 2 way antenna right behind the rear view, but up against the headliner and windshield, works perfect for me, paid 800 for the whole install , had everything i need, like tilt sensor for the rims, glass sensors, auto windows on all 4 windows, plus the ability to do the tailgate up and down, also horn honk, back up siren, hood pin, custom leds, remote start, and some other things i forgot.

Bring a key just in case! Let me know if the interface works.

Also, I am able to open one door (drivers door - one press) or all doors (two presses on unlock) just the same as the OEM remote on key. This feature is built into alarm brain and deals with the unlock pulse that is sent to vehicle. I changed mine on my own using the installation instructions.

You can also program the alarm to roll up all windows when activated (armed). You will have to have the key/window roll up feature turned on though (Toyota dealership can change this.)
 
can someone PLEASE help me out...i cant figure out what i need to do...when i hit unlock on my viper 5901 remote, it unlocks all the doors at once which is what i dont want. I want to be able to to unlock the drivers door with one push and then the rest of the doors with a second push...what do i do or look for??
