VLEDs LED Headlight Bulbs

Longtime lurker now finally a posting/contributing member.

Thought I'd share some photos regarding LED headlights, since HIDs have been beaten to death and then some.

Quick info - headlights from VLEDs.com (H4 9003 HB2) and picked them up for about $120 + tax since I live in the same state as the company. My bulbs were rated for 1600 lumens (low) and 2000 lumens (high) respectively. 6000K


EDIT: Just looked at the website, the specific bulbs I have are no longer listed (they were on clearance when I got them), but they do have a new model that is rated for 2500 and 4500 lumens.

Those actually look like they have a pretty decent cutoff. Not as good as projectors, but way better than HID's, even the stock halogens bleed some light too.

Does that big heatsink mount to anything or is it just supported by the bulb?

That was my thought too, regarding the cutoff. When i installed them, I had the passenger side bulb slightly rotated (not on purpose) and found that it created a hotspot that basically follows the fog line on the road, which is nice.

Another thing that I like about them is that when the highs are turned on, they illuminate both the top and bottom of the housing, rather than switching off between the two, giving full lighting near and far away. I need to get pics of that up soon.

As far as the heatsink goes, it's all one piece (too bad I didn't take any photos of the bulbs prior to installing).

My main concern was the cutoff, which I think you squashed. I like the plug and play aspect, and that I don't have to tear up a set of headlights for a projector retrofit. Thanks for weighing in.

Can you post a picture of what the beam looks like from the driver's seat looking down the road?

I have a set of Truck Lite LED's that I was planning on in my 94 but I would have to convert mounts and housings.

The bulbs you found would be a great alternative.

Anyone know the longevity of these? I've heard of people having issues with the fans getting clogged with debris (especially in offroad trucks like ours) and eventually failing. I suppose you could just add a compressed air blow-out to every oil change to help things. How is the throw with the light? Similar/better to stock bulbs? The new higher output bulbs are 160 a set, with 10% off and freeshipping possibly until the end of november at vleds....

Ask my girlfriend, I LOVE driving with the high beams on. I get annoyed at night when I get stuck behind people because then I can't use them.:redbrick:
In regards to the highs vs lows, I can only compare to my old halogens, which switched off between high and low, whereas these illuminate both when the high beams are turned on, which is really nice, especially on dirt roads

Of course. I really liked how HIDs look color-wise as well as the longevity of HIDs and LEDs, but also didn't want to do the work for projectors. Thanks for stopping by :thumb3:

I plan on it, the next time I'm out for a drive on a country road at night I'll make sure to get some photos. I had my GoPro suction cupped upside-down to the sunroof the last time, but the mirror got in the way since I didn't have it hanging down far enough. At times you can still see the light around the sides of the mirror, so if you'd like, I can try and pull a frame of how the light is. Otherwise I'll try and get a better shot next time.

I've been offroad a few times since I got these bulbs, haven't had any issues. Then again I'm not super rough offroad, as you can see I'm still pretty close to stock. I don't believe my bulbs have a fan on the back, I think it's just a heatsink, so getting stuff in there hasn't been an issue. As far as longevity, if they live up to what LEDs are expected to (they'd better, I'll be pissed if not) I shouldn't ever have to replace these.
Compared to stock bulbs, these are 10000000000x better. If I had to go back to stock bulbs I probably wouldn't ever want to drive at night.

For high beam shots, this is what I have currently. Neither of which are very good, because the light sensitivity of the GoPro is responding to the light from from the stereo and such, dimming the light on the road. And of course, the mirror is in the way :smash:

Alright, here they are! For those of you that have been waiting so patiently

I have two shots (not exactly the best quality) that show the high beams, though the light throw isn't as good on camera as it is in person. However, notice that the road signs are illuminated pretty far out, and the road lines reflect pretty well too, though that's not shown as much.

The third photo shows how the lows look driving around with the lows in town.

Just saw your post, no I did not. I have a '99 so I don't have DRL's. I did do the fog light mod though prior to the install, so I'm not sure if that is on the need-to-do list for these headlights
