Volt vs Extreme HID

Actually we can not compare them. Volt a is unit of electric potential and electromotive force. While HID stands for High-Intensity Discharge. HID is a type of electrical lamp, it has higher luminus efficacy and resembles daylight since a greater proportion of their radiation is in visible light as opposed to heat. HID cost $80 more than ordinary hallogen bulbs as they have additional components such as ballast and may include special connectors and wirings.
So, an ordinary headlight replacement bulb may cost $20-pair while a HID kit can cost $100 up as the cost of the ballast and wirings are added.
EDIT: Sorry I didn't know that "Volt" is a Brand. I'm just basing in my oldskol knowledge.....get the higher price as they are usually better..
I think that the noticeable difference of "Volt" from earlier generation HIDs is the new slim ballast design and is completely epoxy sealed. Ballast specs are also improved

The Xtreme HID has been in the market since 2001 and is made in Japan while the Volt - from Taiwan, maybe that should explain the $80 difference in price.

Honestly... The current website price is as low as we will go on these products. There is only so much margin on our kits. There are cheaper kits out there but our goal is not to offer you guys the lowest price possible. Our goal is to offer you quality products, great service, and a reliable product.

Hi There,
I just installed a Volt 4300k for my low beams, awsome! $115 delivered, can't beat that! I did have to reverse polarity though! My son has the Xtreme and he is very happy with his purchase, my car is a 2005 V8 T4R, and his is 2007 V8 T4R.

I finally got around to installing the Extreme kit this past weekend. It's definitely an good kit. The install went pretty easy and they fired up first time with no issues. Honestly, there is quite a bit of wiring so the slim ballast isn't going to help you hide anything. Also, in my personal opinion the bulb upgrade is worth the price difference alone.

Glock_19 - The relay harness is optional however it ensures that the HID ballasts get a constant 12V as power is drawn directly from the battery.

When it says "Life Expectancy: 4-6 Years", what is expected to last for 4-6 years? The HID bulbs or the ballast? Thanks!

I've been running the Extreme HID kit for 2 years now, and haven't had a single issue. I love them! My only issue is that tons of people flash me because they think my high beams are on. I've aimed them properly, they are just THAT much brighter.
I originally installed them as a safety feature because I lived in Maine and with the HID kit, I could see the sides of the road at night where the deer like to hide out. But now that I live in SF, it's more just for show now.

you still need to aim your lights lower and the getting flashed will stop. I went through the exact same thing and had to lower my lights three times before I stopped getting flashed

I installed XD's Philips kit in my low beams about 8 months after I got the 4Runner. They've been in there 5 years now. I had the Xtreme kit in my fogs for about 3 years now. I don't only use my fogs when it's raining or driving in the snow. No issues with either kit. I think it'll last the life of the 4Runner or maybe even out live it.

I just dropped in a pair of VOLTS from XenonDepot (THANKS GUYS!). Couple quick questions... faint buzzing... Normal or NOT Normal?
And GRNT4R2005... did you reverse polarity on both sides or just one? I know it sounds weird but I only had to reverse the polarity passenger side (black wire to the +).
Both bulbs are firing up HOLY bright!

I don't have either kit i went cheap but agree about the flashing...keep lowering them. They are brighter so you could potentially blind oncoming cars which is bad. We've all seen the person with the badly aimed hid's driving at us...

With the 4300K low beams and 3000K fog lights, does using both at the same time cause the light output to look yellow mixing the 4300K and 3000K?
