Volume knob not working after installing subs

I recently installed new subs into my 4runner and followed the wire diagram. When everything was done the amp to the sub turned on, everything in the car worked, the radio was good, but the volume knob didn't work. It only worked to turn on/off the radio. You can vaguely hear music coming out of the speakers(barely) but I can't control my volume at all. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this problem? perhaps my wiring could be wrong or something?

I assume that you are talking about your stock HU. Mine started having volume issues a few months ago. I would have to turn the knob slowly. If I turned it fast it would not change the volume. I replaced it with an aftermarket HU and it sounds so much better. I wish I did it a long time ago. Well worth the money.

yeh we're messing with it right now. all we did was install some after market subs nothing else. the radio is still stalk so dunno if the HU would make a difference. do you have or know where i can get an accurate wire diagram for a 2001 4runner? cus i've gotten a few but there are wires that werent even on the diagram. any suggestions?

Did you hook your speakers up to the amp, or just the subs?

How did you wire it? If you could draw a diagram, or take some pictures, it'd really help us, help you. If you even talked through the install, that would help.
