How is it that the salesmen seem to know less about the vehicles they are selling than just the most basic enthusiast? Why don’t dealerships require this salesmen to have a good working knowledge of the product they are trying to sell?

Some dealers actually do. There is a whole Toyota University that dealers can utilize to train sales and service with. Sadly a lot of them tend not to bother with it. If they are a "STAR" rated dealer it is required.

I just checked the 3 local dealers for TRD Pros. One has none, one has a White and one has a Blue. They're advertised for $48,600+change.

The Tacomas seem to sell quickly. A white trd pro was gone within a week.

I got my 2018 Pro for $1K under MSRP and it wasn't even being advertised, they had it hidden in the back. I know if I were in the market for one I'd wait for the 2020 model just to get the better infotainment package unless they were willing to deeply discount the 2019.

I bought my 2017 in MA in July 2017 at just below MRSP. Were 8 on lots within 50 miles. I emailed each. Traded in a 2014 RRS Dynamic SC and got money back. I don’t see the TRD Pro’s here in NE going over mrsp. I just don’t see it as that much of an “exclusive” vehicle around here where there is not as much of an off-road market. Good for the consumer, and I almost picked up a Trail at sig under mrsp.

Have done all the mods myself and pretty happy with the vehicle so far.

This is a very statement, the dealership I do business with said the can't keep TRD off-roads in stock , but TRD PRO's are slow sellers . I know when I bought my TRD off road they tired to sell my a PRO that the could sell (Volood Blue) . My salesman told they did finally sell at 3k below sticker.
I guess in NE we don't over pay for image !

How/where can you find out if a dealer is star rated? I don't see that designation in the find a dealer section of toyota.com ?

Not really sure but I can try and find out. I know my dealer has a plaque on the wall in sales and service.

Supply and demand. When I was looking for my cement TRD pro (used, obviously) a couple weeks ago, I found a cement in Arizona with 5,000 miles and the dealer was asking $49,999!! If they can get it, they will. I suppose that voodoo blue one the OP mentioned won’t sit for long because they’ll come down on price to move it if necessary. I don’t think it’s an issue of color. Enough people want the rare colors.

Crazy $$, but at least they actually did something performance-wise with the supercharger.

It kind of blows my mind that even at MSRP it is $11k over what I got my ORP from the same dealer last summer.

I got my Voodoo in Bend in October, was stock except for that central OR package and got it for $1k under MSRP.

Crazy how much they jumped this one. $60k is sooo much for this vehicle...

Almost 10k for a super charger wtf!! That’s like 6k over priced. I wouldn’t ever pay 60k for a 4Runner. They would have to upgrade a whole lot!! I got mine for $1600 under msrp.

A super charger will cost around 7k installed, so no it is not 6k over priced, probably 3k but of course the dealer that did it will want a cut so that's the 3k.

Seems like 4Runner's are way overpriced right now, but then again if people buy them then I guess it is not overpriced. I bet if you wait until later in the year when the 2020's are available the 2019 price will go down. It is no wonder then why a refresh is still probably years away.

Plenty of TRD Pro's sitting around dealer lots where I'm at. My local dealer has at least 2 or 3 Tundra's and Tacoma's each. All selling at MSRP and have sat on the lot for a bit. There's one dealer in town that still has a 2018 Cav Blue Tacoma that's been there for at least 6 months. The segment is getting competitive and I think Toyota probably saturated the market enough to fulfill anyone who wants a TRD Pro. They are nothing special.

Well if $60k is too steep for the Pro, they also had an SR5 all tricked out that you could get for $51k! (again, sorry about the reflections, their showroom is all glass). It did have a sweet C4 bumper and Warn winch. $3,500 for tires and wheels is nuts, and I'm not sure what they do for that $3,000 protection package. It wasn't on mine.

They have their showroom full of loaded up cars and trucks. They are fun to look at. There was a RAV4 with a lift, Method wheels/off road tires and a big light bar all rally style. I thought it was a Subaru Crosstrek at first since I've seen some done up that style around here lately (I didn't even bother to look at the price on that one). They are the only game in town for Toyota here in Bend, and I'm sure the showroom eye candy catches a few buyers who don't really know any better but love the looks.

Buying my 4Runner from them was actually really a breeze with internet pricing. They basically would sell me any 4Runner they had on the lot for $3k under msrp without any sort of negotiation. I don't know if they would have dealt on a pro or not at the time since I wasn't in the market for one.

The pros won’t sit on the lot that long. Only reason they have them even there people backed out the order. That’s how I got mine from the dealership. Also they may not drop to much in price. You really don’t want that because that will make all the others value drop even an ORP.

Now if you want to play semantics and get down to the brass tacks of what a Pro really is then yes, they are over priced. Personally I wanted the Pro for the hood, grill, wheels, and exclusivity, well more or less my other half did. For now the Bilstein suspension has done well and the looks have not let us down and we enjoy having a 4Runner that doesn't look like every single other one we see at every corner.

All Toyota's have good resale but when it comes time for us to move on from the 4Runner, I will get a better return on my initial investment simply because it is a Pro, that's a fact. Like I have said before, buy what makes you happy and enjoy it, they are all great vehicles because they are all Toyota 4Runners, but don't bash on those that paid for a Pro simply because you personally couldn't justify or afford one yourself.

Thanks for the clarification and I agree, anyone paying over sticker is a sucker, for any vehicle lol. I think if you can pick up a Pro for MSRP or less and that's what you desire then by all means go for it.
