Voodoo Blue sitting unsold....hmmm

I’m not allowed to start a new thread so I have to hijack this one. I love the Calvary blue color, I had a speedway blue taco which was close to it back in the day. Found a dealer that has a 2018 Demo with 3,000 miles on it and there asking $40k. What do you guys think this would be a certified truck not new now which actually would be a better warranty. I’ve always loved these things and would really love the new radio and smart key but I’m not a fan of the green color.

That's a great deal compared to other Pros. Almost the same price as an ORP (which the Pro pretty much is) and the CPO warranty is great. Cav blue is probably my favorite of the Pro colors, it's got such a great classic feel to it. Snag it before someone else does.

That's a good deal. But I bet you won't find a Voodoo Blue one for that.

You are correct! I just traded in my 2018 Cement Tacoma in this morning on a 2019 Voodoo Blue 4Runner. Most dealers were telling me there were no discounts on the Pro's...but, all other models had some sort of discount. I've got a 2008 Voodoo Blue FJ Cruiser...so, VERY familiar with the color. I was flip-flopping back and forth between whether I NEEDED the Pro or not. I could've gone with a TRD Off-Road Premium for what I was looking for...and then could upgrade the wheels, grille, roof rack, etc....and probably save $6k. BUT, didn't know if I wanted to go with the White...or go with the Voodoo, which I think looks great! So, paid MSRP for the Voodoo. Was actually fairly hard to find, as 3-4 dealerships that showed one on their websites...said they had sold, when I contacted them.

I saw a voodoo blue in person for the first time this weekend. No way I would sport a superman blue car. Hideous.

I work for the Federal Reserve 12th District (San Francisco), but in the LA Branch as a risk specialist. In the just released Fed Beige Book, 10 of the 12 District Feds reported a slowing economy. Definitely seeing it out west. Like the Bay area had seen 4 consecutive months of home price decreases and that was November data. We are seeing the signs of the end of this business cycle.

Whats this have to do with Blue

As others have stated, it is most likely the dealer markup. Nobody needs to settle for the markup if you're willing to wait, search and/or maybe travel for your new 4Runner. I got a PRO at MSRP and so can you.

Sad when there’s bragging about buying at MSRP. Nothing personal...just the ridiculous state of affairs for 4Runners. I mean, these aren’t exactly a super exclusive limited production item.

C'mon man...it's not THAT bad!! LOL!!
Let's go through the "standard" colors....
Silver...probably least desirable...IMO
Black...nice (same as my last 2003)...but, shows EVERYTHING!
White...probably would've been my 2nd choice.
Magnetic Gray...not bad, but sorta generic.
Barcelona Red...meh. Should be a bright radical red.
Nautical Blue...same as the red (although a little better).

Nothing really stood out or "wow'ed" me. This is where Voodoo Blue stands out.

I'd be open to the army green, that is expected in 2020.
Also, do like the burnt orange.

I like something that doesn't look like (or blend in with) everything else one the street.

Just my opinion!

Silver was far from my first choice but consider this...it’s a classic color that doesn’t go out of style and, more importantly, if you actually take your rig off road, you’ll be glad you got silver or white when you catch trail rash. Good luck hiding any of that with dark colors or that voodoo blue (which I happen to like).

You know how much the stealer is making when you buy AT MSRP??? That’s a fat payday for them. Their dealer holdback is thousands less. They love people who walk in and pay that.

I'm not knocking anyone for buying silver. Just my least favorite...probably due to being one of the most common colors on the road, in general. Completely see your point, with off-roading.
As for the stealer making money...I get it. But, it seems MOST dealers are not discounting the Voodoo models. Just the way it is. If you want it, you have to pay MSRP, at minimum. If you manage to get for less, consider yourself lucky!

I read that dealer holdback from Toyota is 2% of base MSRP, so that would be $930 for a $46,615 MSRP. Invoice is $42,885, so that's where they're making the money.

I've known a few people associated with car sales over the years, and frankly, some of the math made me dizzy. Front end commission, back end, unit sales, etc. Years ago, my dad's friend hinted that used cars had the biggest profit margins. Now there's internet sales as well. It's all very nuanced and I've forgotten all the other stuff he told me, nearly 40 years ago, but volume was the biggest take away. That one stuck with me, but I don't know how Toyota deals with that. I'm sure dealers get some reward for high sales, which means lower prices wouldn't hurt them in the long run. Or I could be very wrong...

I agree. It does "stand out". I think army green will look amazing and understand everyone has their own opinion. While the voodoo blue is new, I keep asking myself -Will I like this color 3-4 years from now? I can't say yes to that.

Thanks and I didn’t take it as knocking on silver. It’s boring. It looks clean in any condition but it’s boring. With the amount of rash I’ve accumulated, I’d be sick if you could actually see it.

Army green is going to be sooooo nice.

As for the dealer holdback, if what was states was correct, that’s easily the lowest I’ve ever heard. I’m not saying it isn’t true but I’m shocked.

I paid $1600 under msrp. Each to their own with colors. Some people like plain boring and some like go stand out and Personally I think army green is ugly! Only green I’ve liked is a couple I’ve seen wrapped on Instagram but they wernt arnt green. Just buy what you want but be smart and don’t overly pay for it.

The money is definitely in used car sales and the service department. I had a conversation with an ex-manager of a GM dealership recently and he straight up told me that the dealership barely makes any money on most new car sales except limited availability or high demand stuff they can sell at or above MSRP. For Toyota dealers that's pretty much the TRD Pro models in some areas and maybe the new Supra. Nobody is going to buy a RAV4 or Camry for anywhere near MSRP.

True dat, that's why you should buy from high volume dealerships. The manufacturer gives kickbacks for selling a certain amount of vehicles and that's how they make money. That's why you should always buy at the end of the month or even better, end of year. They may sell cars for a loss just to make their numbers so they can get the kickback. Sales people also may be short on their numbers and may sell a car for cheaper to get their own bonus.

Both of your comments sound familiar....truthfully, I've got more experience buying bikes, but that's a different forum. See, ya can learn stuff everyday. Cheers.
