VSC Light Came on - Help!

Filled up with gas today, everything was normal. After shopping at walmart for an hour and starting car, 3 warning lights came on and stayed on. They were the check engine light, the VSC traction Light, and the VSC Traction Off light. Is this something that has to be fixed at a dealer? Is it expensive to fix and is it dangerous? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

go to autozone or somewhere similar to have your trouble codes scanned (for free). A loose gas cap causing a leak in the fuel evap system is commonly the cause of this.

When I had that, it was a bad gas cap. $30 at the Service desk fixed it. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes to clear it afterwards.

The gas cap is probably the most common cause. Whenever there is any issue with the vehicle the check engine, and two VSA lights automatically come on. I had added a Volant Cold Air Intake that was triggering the codes. I suggest visiting a good mechanic shop who will scan your computer and identify what is wrong. Don't worry, it is probably nothing major.

And to be clearer about my previous post. My trouble code was P0456. Sure there could be other causes, but if its an Evaporative Emissions System code, a new fuel cap is the quickest and cheapest fix before you worry about more expensive and complex ones.

Given that you noted it was after a fuel up you should check to make sure your fuel filler cap is on tight. If it clicks but still feels loose, replace it. That's what I just went through with mine.

Also, going to AutoZone to get the specific trouble code is a good idea. My code reader broke so I just assumed my loose gas cap was the problem. I replaced it, unhooked the battery negative cable for about 15 seconds, and voila, problem solved.

EDIT: Wanted to add I've heard the AutoZone cap is kinda shoddy, I picked mine up from NAPA.

Gas cap, make sure your gas cap is tight, and it may need to be replaced.

EDIT: posted this before I read all the other "gas cap" comments above... whenever these three lights come on after refueling its almost ALWAYS going to be a new gas cap. Good luck with the fix

Replace your gas cap.
Had the same problem and it worked, The entire fuel system needs to be sealed.
Your gas cap seal wears out after a few years.
