Vsc newbie question

Hi,

On my 2008 runner if I lock the center diff I clearly see VSC OFF in the dash,
if I push on this switch I see the logo on my dash (obviously) but not VSC OFF .. :

(the picture is not a 2008 4runner but do the job)


My question is : it's the same thing ??

It partially disables the system.

That button is for your Traction Control. If you push that by itself you will be able to spin the tires without your engine cutting.

The Center lock Automatically disables this as well. They both disable traction control, but one locks the center diff and the other doesn't.

You are very lucky to have the traction control switch. Earlier Models were not equipped with it making off roading in 2wd annoying as hell.

If you just press the switch, you will get the squiggly car light. If you press and hold the switch, you will get both the squiggly car light and the vsc off light. At this point the only electronic wizardry still operational is the ABS. The ability to "long press" this switch is only available on 06+ trucks.
