vsc not working when cold?

When I got into my 03 V6 SE early yesterday morning, the outside temperature was 9 F. When I put the car into reverse to pull out of the driveway, the "VSC OFF" light came on. (I did not let the car idle to warm up before pulling out of the driveway.) I couldn't get it to come off, despite driving the car 15 minutes to warm her up, trying to shift, change in and out of 4WD, and locking and unlocking the center differential. When I came back to the car two hours later and started her up again, it worked fine.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any idea of what caused this?

hmm never had this happen in the last 2 weeks when it was -10 to -30F ambient temp. i did use a block heater and let the vehicle warm up though. plus i make sure all lites are no longer blinking before taking off. it may have come on due to difference of tire speed between the front and rear axles due to the gear oil being cold from sitting overnite, just taking a stab here and as always, ymmv.

I have not warmed my 4runner once in -30C and all the driving assists have worked fine...

I think it should be fine though. The thing about technology is that it has a mind of its own.

same thing happend to me and i have an auto starter....i just turned the car off and restarted it and the vsc off lite went out. Good Luck.

This has happened to me only twice. Both times in my driveway on a cold-ish (35-40F) morning. The VSC OFF light stayed on until I turned off the car and started back up.

The first time, I drove and thought it would go off but didn't until I started again after my drive.

The second time I immediately turned off the car and back on (without moving). It must have reset or something because it was normal and the light turned off.

But this happened only twice ever.

Ive been out in freezing temps and it's never done that so I am not sure if it is related to temperature...

Maybe it's just the light that is glitchy or a glitchy sensor? I've been through cold, snow,slush, mud and the commute- never any other problem - just those 2 isolated instances.

We have had bitter cold weather for the last couple of weeks. My 4Runner was sitting outside in -5 F and I started driving without warming it. The VSC OFF light turned off right away. I have never experienced this problem on mine and it has been sitting out in very cold temperatures.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like this is something I shouldn't get too worried about. Let's just hope this weather starts to warm up so I can start getting outside more!
