vsc off vsc trac lights on, check engine light on

T4r is an '01 with the multi-mode case. While driving to archery league this morning,I shut off the 4wd button. The lights seemed to flash for an extended time. Then I noticed the above lights. Got home and checked the manual,said vehicle will drive with no issues but no traction control. That's fine with me because I don't like it anyway. However,the lights are annoying. So is this something I can diagnose and repair myself?

Get a code reader and see the engine code. I had this happen when my MAF sensor was taking a shit.

Is the check engine light on with it? Auto Zone will read the codes for free. I had the same thing a few months back. got a new MAF for 60 bucks and all went away...

I have a 4th Gen (2006) Same thing happened to me...checking the web someone suggeted a loose gas cap. Checked it seemed ok.... maybe just slightly loose. Tightned it...Disconnected battery.... hooked everything back and and no lights.... that was 30k ago...

REALLY dumb in my opinion. Why should traction or vehicle stability control be disabled if my gas cap was loose or something else as trivial? I could understand if it was something related to the VSC/TRAC, but no...turns it all off for any code.

Ok,makes sense now. I agree it is really dumb. I went out earlier and disconnected the battery and tightened the fuel cap a few clicks. See what happens in the morning.

Trust me when I say that if you have a performance problem due to a DTC, you definitely want the TRAC and VSC to be off if you need to gas it to get out of a situation.

could be the gas cap has gone bad, happened to our 2004 sienna a few weeks back, got a new gas cap on there, ran through 3/4 of a tank of gas, and all lights went off! $8 and no time at the mechanics shop, might be worth an $8 gamble...it sure was for me!

I cleared mine the first time it popped up. About 80 miles after the second time my CAT began rattling. It was completely junked from a leak in my Thorley headers. Could possibly be an O2 sensor though.

Too funny apparently I dont know how to read, I thought your post said it was not the gas cap that was the problem...ok well good deal, I hope it was nothing more than that. happy travels!
