VSC, Slip, and CEL just came on...Help

Like the tittle says, my VSC, slippery control, VSC Off and CEL just came on this morning, when I started up, without me even touching anything. Anyone had the same problems with the 2005 year model? Will the gas cap procedure, one I've seen many times, work? Is disconnecting the negative on the battery and waiting 15minutes(restarting the computer or something like that) a possibility? Or that would just make things worse?

Any help is deeply appreciated.....:confused:

If its indeed the gas cap, I would totally understand the CEL on, but why all the stability and traction controls lights on too? Doesn't make sense to me.
 
Swing by an Autozone or similar store and ask them to read your code. Same tuning happened to me, everything was on, and it was the gas cap. If I recall correctly, the code read something about emissions, but don't quote me on that. The Autozone guy knew as soon as he read it, it was the gas cap.

Resetting by disconnecting battery won't do anything.

I cant remember exactly, but if you search someone has stated why the VSC and trac also come on..
 
Just called my nearest Autozone and they check the CEL codes for free, but has to be during the day and when its not raining or snowing, lucky me, we have a snow/mix shower warning, 2-5 inches, expected for tomorrow morning......:ybrick:

Hopefully I''ll be able to do it tomorrow afternoon, or later Sunday, and it will be something stupid like a sensor or gas cap replacement....**cross fingers**....

keep us posted.....ive had those super ghey lights come on...and keep coming on....so annoying...ive noticed when they r on it affects my gas mileage....?...dunno...i havent tried the gas cap thing yet...i did replace sensor on one side..still coming on...like i said keep us posted...hope the gas cap fixes it...the code mine has been throwing is a po430 and a po136..emissions codes..who knows....
 
So I was able to get it tested at Autozone, and this is what I got from the code reader:

OEM number to cross: P0441

Definition:
aaEVAP (evaporative emission system) small leak/no
aaflow condition
Explanation
aaThe evaporative emission system is monitored for
aait's ability to hold vacuum.
Probable cause
Defective or loose cap
EVAP canister or hose cracked-not connected
Purge or vent solenoid defective
Vacuum leak at engine

When we open that gas door, the cap was very loose, you didn't even had to twist it to open it.....

They offered me a gas cap for $12, but I rather buy the OEM from the dealer, which I think its like $20.

I just got these lights today. CEL and VSC

Coming from a BMW, I'm very familiar with check engine lights, ha.

My wife had borrowed my car and filled it up, and I guarantee she didn't muscle it to the clicking point required. I checked the cap and it was dangling in place, basically.

I'm hoping it'll reset after a couple days.

those are cat related codes so you could have a bad cat.

replace the cap and dont worry about resetting or paying someone to reset the light....if the cap is the problem the light will go off on its own after a couple days of driving. if it doesnt however, than you have something else going on there.
 
I had the codes read. All consistent with most likely gas cap.

Disconnected the battery and haven't gotten the code after a few restarts/drives so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I just bought it so I'm really not looking for a headache.
 
So did the gas cap work for you on the PO430 code or did the lights come back on? Im having same issue. bought oem cap and cleared codes out and it hasnt come on for fifty miles now.
 
For the record, the 4Runner is one of those vehicles that set the MIL, VSC, & Trac lights when a DTC is set. The most likely reason for this I woul assume if attributed to our less intelligent counterparts that share our species designation. What I mean by that is the "human beings" (and I use that term loosely in this context...) that ignore the bright light that says "HEY I HAVE A PROBLEM YOU SHOULD GET ME CHECKED OUT!" with their kid pictures, duct tape, or any other idiotic avoidance mechanism, then complain that the car is crap because they didn't fix the small problem that caused the huge cascade of issues down the line, so they figured if they added a couple more lights they might actually pay attention... Sorry about that, a little annoyed by large amount of people that bring their car in and are like, "just want an oil change" and their dash is lit like a christmas tree! As if the magical oil change will prevent the car from exploding, I feel sorry for the cars having to put up with the lesser examples of human intelligence... where's Darwin when you need him?

Once again, sorry for the rant; not directed towards you and I guess I shouldn't complain since at some point it does mean job security...

Since this comes up so often, I'll bump the old thread to help newcomers like me.

I had all warning lights come on two days ago. this was after having just bought my used 06 SR5 4WD.

Went to AutoZone, and the diagnostic came out the same as the OP. I bought an aftermarket gas cap from AutoZone for 13 bucks, but it was pretty crappy.

My mechanic advised picking up the OEM cap, which I did for $23 with tax.

The Toyota Dealer wanted $49.95 to reset the lights; they told me they would not go off by themselves even if you disconnect the battery. I do not believe this is correct. . . . .? In any case, I don't think I'll be returning to that shop.

So I went to the guy who's been working on my cars for the last 5 years. He hooked up his $39 scanner and reset my lights for free. 2 days of driving later, and all lights are still off.

So if you are new here and have this very common problem, I would say get a free scan, then buy an OEM cap; disconnect the battery for 20 minutes and see if it resets. You're almost certainly good to go.
 
PO430 Is not Oem gas cap

I bought a Actron code scanner and erased code (PO430) after buying new OEM gas cap for $30 after tax. Christmas tree came back on within 10 minutes. I am now replacing both upper Air Flow Ratio Sensors and the two downstream O2 sensors. Have replace the upstream passenger side and the downstream driver side. Waiting on other 2 sensors (will be in at 230pm pacific time). Hopefully this will clear up my proplem. Shout out to BLACKWORKSINC.
