Was wet out one day, put the 4Runner away in the Garage. (It's also been real humid) The cars sat for several days. Then, when I took it out, as soon as I put in forward gear, it shifted EXTRA hard... Almost clunk like. I then put in reverse... no problem. Back in forward it demonstrated a hard shift again.
I had to make about a 50 mile round trip ride and about 2 miles from home ,the VSC Trac lights all game on, check engine ect... When we got home I let it sit. then an hour later my wife took out and said it was surging funny about a mile from home so she brought it back.
Today, I checked the gas cap and then started it and all hte lights are still on, but the hard shift to forward is not manifesting.
I just read several threads, so I am going out to disconnect the + battery cable and see what happens.

Well just got back in. I unhooked the battery for 15 minutes and tightened up the gas cap. When I turned the car on, all lights lit up a usual, but VSC and others were out. Well I thought I might be in the clear, so I put it in gear and sure enough that hard shift into "Forward" gear was present. So, I took it for a test ride. Not more than a 1/4 of a mile while going 25MPH, the transmission felt as though it "disengaged" and the engine rev'd as if it was thrown into neutral.
Does this sound like the "TRANSMISSION Solenoid" which I read about P2714....? Worst case, if so, will I cause damage if I drive to the repair shop or should I have it towed?
In the meantime, does anyone know of a real good Toyota Shop in the "western" suburbs of Minneapolis?
