Every now and then when I crank the truck, the "VSC TRAC and VSC OFF" lights will come on in the lower left corner of the dash (i have an "01 SR5 4wd). Sometimes it is as infrequent as once a week, other times it comes on every other time its cranked. I can't figure out any pattern (i.e. - cold weather or not letting the engine warm up before shifting into gear, etc). Most of the time I can just re-crank the vehicle and the lights go right back off. The real problem is the vehicle will not shift in or out of 4wd when these lights are on - obviously a VSC malfunction of some sort, and among other things this and the lights are a little annoying.
Last time i had the truck up at the Toyota dealership I asked them about these lights. They plugged it up to the diagnostic computer and came up with nothing. Of course they cranked it a few times and couldn't get the light to come on, so I figured it wasn't a big deal.
Anybody know what exactly is causing these lights to come on every now and then? And/or what I can do to prevent this or fix it?
