MODS: I tried to search for an appropriate thread, but the search feature does not seem to be working exactly right. The hyperlinks do not seem to take you to the post described. Or I'm just dense. Either way, if a MOD could move the post to an appropriate place, I would appreciate it.

All:

I have a 2002 4Runner 4x4. I'm writing to the board because I just dealt with the VSC Track VSC Off issue. I got some help here, and wanted to kind of give back.

Getting back to the issue at hand. I believe the important thing to remember is that VSC Track and VSC Off will be displayed together with a variety of error codes that have triggered the check engine light. My understanding is that the ECU does this for safety reasons. So if the check engine light is on, the VSC lights also being on means nothing. In my case, a code reader displayed error code P1135. The test that went along with the code stated that the error was cased by the failure of a "air fuel" sensor heating circuit check. It did not state which.

Changing both the Os sensors did the trick. Error cleared in just two starts of a couple minutes each. Note that Toyota recommends changing these parts as part of a 75k mile scheduled maintenance.

Many people out there are buying modules because there is information on the web that directs people that way. They should not do this until performing a proper investigation.

Sincerely,
G. Fowler
