VTEC Vs VVT-I

Ok I use to own 95 Honda Prelude and at curtain rpm you can fill the VTEC kick in all the way to red line. what about the VVT-I does it work the same way as the VTEC?

vtec

hi, i own a honda s2000 with the v tec. Vtec provides variable lift as well as variable duration. My model of vtec is either on or off. It accomplishes this by actuating a 2nd set of cam lobes at a set rpm. It is a simple and effective system. With a powerful setup and the light weight of my s2k it gives a bit of a kick in the pants when it engages.
I haven't seen a good mechanical depiction of the vvt-i yet to see how it infininetly varies the valve duration. It's been described as similar to the bmw vanos system. It seems like a reliable system for bmw except there have been some reports of it being an expensive system to service that wears out and needs work at 70-90k mileage.
The vtec is basically an oil pressure activated miniature piston that engagues a second rocker arm which then uses the second set of cam lobes. Its very bulletproof and in my car as you may know it then redlines at 9,000 rpm. What a beautiful sound :D
