W56 Tranny Trouble

I pulled my transmission apart and snivilous noticed that a piece of metal looks like it got smashed and bent by something. Does anyone know what this is or what it does? Should I replace it or just bend it flat?

I'm also wondering if there is a trick to getting the seal out that goes from the shaft to the transfer case.. I bought input and output shaft seals and can't figure out where they go but I can figure that out from google I'm sure. The Haynes hasn't helped much...

Soo.. no one on here have much tranny experience? I decided the bent piece of metal was supposed to be like that cause the bend looked to nice to really be damage. The scratches are what made me think it was a problem. Also the auto store gave me the wrong output shaft seal. That's why it was throwing me off. I went back in and the have to special order it. They may not even be able to get it anymore. I'm sure I can find one somewhere though.

Rockauto has them cheap, looks like a couple different choices.

Please give marlincrawler a call. They will be able to help you out no problem getting an input seal and also I do recommend getting a rear output ecoseal for the transmission while your in there.

I got the input in. No one around here has the output though. I looked at marlincrawlers but I wasn't sure if it would fit. I ordered a Timken seal off Amazon that said it would fit and it doesn't. So I ordered one that is for sure the same dimensions and if it doesn't work I'll definitely be giving marlin a call.

Thanks fore the help
