Hey guys, apoligies in advance for the Noob questions!

SO here goes, i wanna put in a touch screen GPS in my 06 4runner but have no idea where to start,

1. Im guessing i need a double din?
2. Anyone have any idea if this is any good? Pioneer AVIC-X940BT Navigation receiver at Crutchfield.com
3. What else do i need? Im thinking some kind of trim piece to make it look factory?
4. ANyone know any good installers in central NJ? Im not sure how easy it would be to do it myself I dont want it stolen back right after i have it installed.
5. Also is there something i can buy on ebay specific to my T4 that can cover the screen, like a dummy stock radio cover or something? Im not sure if any of you have one you can recommend?

My main priority would be to have an uptodate and accurate GPS then sound (also keeping my steering wheel controls and being able to use it while driving).
At the end of the day i just want it to look as factory as possible and not draw any attention to my truck when im parked in not so nice areas. Thanks all!

Give Crutchfield a call. They can answer your initial questions about what fits and what is needed. Then if you purchase from them they will walk you thfough the installation.

Crutchfield is a little higher on price but their service makes up for it. Doing the install yourself will save you in the end and you will feel good that you did it yourself.

If you dont have a lot of experience in stereo installation, you either do it alone and mess it up, take it to a shop that will over charge you or have someone help you (Crutchfield)

i always thought it would be cool to have a fake cheap toyota radio cover to make it less likely to be broken into for the radio. (my brother had a stock radio stolen out of his taco) when i go downtown i just put a shirt on the dash to cover the radio
 
Security tip...

Recently was working with a friend who'd bought a new WRX, he had the window's tinted, plus the front window had a tint band across the top of it. I thought at first it was kinda old school...but it does help to darken the interior. Then, he put up the sun shade...for the night. At first I was like, WTH? Then realized, you couldn't see in to the car after he did that, hardly at all! So now, I do the same since my car is parked outside the garage in an alley.

Just a tip to help secure your new stereo - I'm in the market too, so following all the threads closely.

I have the radio that basically is a 940bt. I love the thing and the touch screen is fairly responsive but don't expect it to be smartphone quality.

That is it in my '07 t4r and I have the stock amp and door speakers there at the time. only thing I changed was the EQ and raised the bass up. This radio has a built in bass knob so you dont need to mount anything.

The GPS is very nice but they are doing alot of construction down here in Alabama so the gps may be behind a bit as far as buildings go, but if you give it a specific address then it will not fail you. It also keeps good track of your position. And if it ever goes wrong it auto corrects as soon as I notice its gone bad.

Also, the Menu, Forward, and Previous hard buttons are removable so the radio is pretty much a brick without it.

The bluetooth takes about 20 seconds to hook up (assuming you've already paired it before.) Audio quality is very good. You can make calls on it as well but I will say the volume for media and the volume for calls is different. and you cant adjust the call volume with the volume knob (a specific call interface pops up whenever a call is taking place.)

It comes with stereo preamp outputs so you can hook up your system.

That same site is where i got my radio for about $400 during one of their major sales about a year and a half ago.

Overall, It is a very good radio and I haven't been let down by it. There are some idiocies but nothing is perfect, right?

The dash kit is was looking at is the urban 4runner kit, it thinks its about 90 bucks but from what ive read it should fit perfectly for my non-jbl, non-rds 06 v8 sport. I dont want the HU to be sticking out i like it as flush as i can get it.

I think i might forgo the GPS and go with the AVH-X5500BHS... but ill wait til after christmas and see:)

No problem man. Looking forward to what you're gonna spring for. If it's worth anything you won't feel like you need the GPS until you've used it lol. Its pretty much a crutch for me now : P.
