Want to get a 2nd key cut

Hey everyone,

I have a 1998 Sr5, im just wondering if I get a blank key cut to copy the master key is there anything else I need to do before using it? Ive been reading around and found some stuff about programming. Not sure what to think here, could anyone clear this up for me?

It's the 4th gen 4Runners that need programmed keys. Your remote has to be programmed and there are tutorials if you google for that. For my 3rd gen I got a key blank off eBay and took it to Ace Hardware. I intended to pay but they cut it and did not charge anything. So I made many purchases out of guilt. On eBay search "98 4Runner key" and see your results.

With a 98 it will be as simple as getting a new key cut.

In the later years they implemented a chip into the key, but it shouldn't be an issue in your case.
